The Unknown tracker alerts detection system went live for one of our tipsters on a Pixel phone running Android 14 beta with Play services 23.26.55. With Google saying the rollout commenced at the end of July, unknown tracker alerts should go live for more users in the next few days and weeks.

For now, Android’s unknown tracker alerts only work with AirTags. Google is working on expanding support to other tags in the coming months.

Guess the idea is a bike theif would see the warning and then look around for the tracker and remove it from the bike.

On the other side of the coin, they may choose to steal a bike without a tracker instead.

By that point they have already stolen the bike. The tag doesn’t give an instant warning, only if it seems to follow the phone.

          Oh yeah. I suppose so.

Can you see where the tracker has been with these things or just where it is?

They can get instant warning, by searching manually. So the thief runs the manual search, removes the tracker, and ride away…
