My prior request was perhaps a bit too jokey and not clear enough and so I figured I should try to lay it out more clearly.
The c/socialism sidebar on Lemmygrad currently contains the explicit term for sexual assault. Hexbear admins have said that it is not federating properly because this word is in Hexbear’s blocklist.
While the comm isn’t super active, when it does get posts, I’d love to be able to see them (and have other people see them) from Hexbear.
If this term is replaced with “Sexual Assault” I believe that the full intent of the comm rules is maintained, while federation to instances which block the current language, like Hexbear, will be re-enabled. This will also remove a term some find triggering, and, as a result, I believe this is a more appropriate approach towards resolving this issue than asking Hexbear to make changes to their word filter.
The lone current moderator is unfortunately no longer around, so at the moment I believe this is a change an admin would need to make.
If I haven’t sufficiently conveyed which word is problematic or you just really, really want to read it:
Rape
I haven’t checked every other comm’s sidebar/federation status for similar issues, but if anyone is aware of other places where this is similarly an issue, I’d certainly appreciate it if they could be updated too!

Thanks!
I wasn’t 100% sure it’s actually a bug - I guess the sidebar text could similarly be replaced with removed and in this particular case that probably makes sense, but, as an example, it would also make sense to me that an “ok buddy” comm not federate somewhere that blocks ableist words.
Anyways, yeah, I can open an issue on GitHub at some point so that some call can be made about how best to handle this sort of issue, but using any of my existing accounts would be exceedingly poor opsec, and even if the libs in my life know I’m a filthy commie, they don’t need to also tie me to this username quite so easily.
