Somehow overnight our little spoons spontaneously organised themselves into perfect order.

I can confirm neither of us did this on purpose, as you can see our usual cutlery storage method is just “throw it in the drawer it’s fine”.

What’s the word for the opposite of entropy?

After standing staring at the sight for a bit, we realised they may have done this to draw our attention to how badly the drawer needs cleaning. So it’s ok, you don’t need to ;)

Localised entropy may decrease so long as the total entropy increases. If the spoons hadn’t organised themselves, would you have come to Lemmy to tell the world, expending energy in the process?

Joke’s on you, I’m on Lemmy all day every day regardless of what the spoons are doing.

      I…may have a problem.

Left handed person! My MIL puts the cutlery away like this and its marginally annoying when picking one up as a righty (although the benefit of her emptying the dishwasher outweighs the annoyance).

If you’re right handed, you’ll naturally pick up a spoon by the bowl if they’re like OP’s image.

away am I imposing some kind of cutlery hell

Probably, but they should do it themselves if they are going to complain

Hehe I am left-handed and live alone but I’ve noticed guests hesitate when they open my cutlery drawer. Spoons aren’t such an issue, but there’s a little element of danger when a right-handed person goes to retrieve a knife 🤣 (My chopping knives are arranged horizontally like OP’s spoons.)

Haha, I am right-handed but he’s ambidextrous so you could be onto something there. Can’t say I’d ever noticed they were the wrong way round though, probably because any other morning they’d be in all directions at once.
