Damn, a friend of mine was just regaling me of how good this movie is and showed me this trailer.
And now I want to see it for myself!
And yes, it reminds me of A Song of Ice and Fire and makes me wish that we got an adaptation of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series (and not the “based off of” story or silliness that was Game of Thrones from season 2 onward and especially after season 4 was done and over with).
It kinda reminds me of the first Assassin’s Creed video game (in contrast to the second Assassin’s Creed II game which was much more flowery and funny and colorful). The first Assassin’s Creed game was a lot more like A Song of Ice and Fire in how dark and philosophical it could be at times and, in general, just the atmosphere was oppressive and heavy; you kinda felt like you’d be suffocated within it.
I really should watch House of the Dragon but, again, it seems like the atmosphere and aesthetics are too much like Game of Thrones and not enough like A Song of Ice and Fire (or this movie called The Green Knight).
Also:
Recommend me some good or great movies from the last 10 years or so (and yes, I think “or so” is going to be used very casually here).
Another thing:
Read Sir Gawain and the Green Knight; it’s a great tale.
Lastly:
Maybe a TV show or two or three could be recommended to me (I’ve been bored lately).

I saw it in theaters and liked it. It’s worth a watch, though maybe not for everyone.

It seems to touch on a theme that is not that popular as well.
I was a big fan of this movie. The overarching message imo was that transcendence or even just becoming a fully-realized person requires you to take on ventures with real risk - an actual chance of failure & personal consequences. It can’t be faked, you have to actually walk through a gauntlet and choosing to do that changes who you are.
I love this message, though not the message of chivalry and doing something “for its own sake” that the original tale had (and which I was looking for).
Too late. It’s a christmas movie. You gotta’ wait until next Christmas to watch it now.

My wife and I just watched this over the weekend, I really enjoyed it the depictions of mythic scenarios and dreamlike quality throughout. I was unfamiliar with this story so it was all new to me. I didn’t expect it to be a Christmas movie also, that was a pleasant surprise.
It’s based off of an Arthurian tale that I read in High School, written during the Medieval Ages, originally.
It was my favorite movie of a stacked year for movies that I watched the first time. If you liked the original tale, the movie did it justice.
If you like non-idealized depictions of the time period, “The Last Duel” is quite good.
If you like history stuff with good cinematography, “The Northman” is beautifully shot with very immersive sound.

Welp, time to support this podcast!
I was listening to a podcasts on Autistic culture and, while enjoyed it, I got bored of it after listening to over 30 episodes in a row and I have nothing to listen to except Blowback season 4.
They’re both self described Marxists and have a series of episodes on historical materialism. The medieval historian Eleanor has also been a guest on CTH’s Hell on Earth series.

And yes, that’s pretty interesting. High praise indeed.
I liked this one just fine but it didn’t stick out as particularly memorable to me, except for one scene in particular which I won’t spoil.
I’ve also seen A Ghost Story (2017), from the same director and probably liked that one more, but it’s quite different. Very slow and sad so you have to be in the right kind of mood to watch it.
I’ll check out the 2017 film as well!
I keep meaning to watch it. I’ve still only seen one movie this year. Maybe this can be my second?

For the record:
I’ve been going through an A Song of Ice and Fire re-read (ever since my first read-through in 2008 or 2009).
I plan to finish the fifth book soon after finishing the fourth one next year, I think.
I also plan to include Dunk & Egg as well.
I don’t plan to include The World of Ice and Fire, even though I enjoyed going through it the first time.
Oh yeah, and let me know if there are any books from the supplementary series I should read through, such as, I guess, the Fire & Blood book (don’t know whether or not I should read that for the first time yet).
