Just learned that Ben Kissel got kicked from LPOTL… It’s obviously under horrible circumstances, but can’t really say it’s surprising. Seems like the dude was on a spiral for years.
Dude was like a true crime Liam from WTYP.

I definitely would not call LPOTL a podcast that stands up for victims exactly.

At this point its solidly middle of the road in terms of respectfulness but during the first like several years of it running the hosts would just flat out mock victims names or invent and act out insulting personas of murder victims. Like the first 100-150 episodes(going by memory) are basically unlistenable in this regard.

One of these fans was Amber Rose, a filmmaker and true-crime buff […]. “There are some podcasts where the hosts are all men, and they make a lot of jokes at the expense of women and fans and queer and trans people who have gone through horrible things,” she says.

In 2017, Rose says, she met Ben Kissel in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theater, where he was judging a Halloween costume contest. She had dressed as Jeffrey Dahmer (a costume choice she now regrets)

The cognitive dissonance of racist White women is insane.

I never listened on anything approaching a regular basis. Never cared for the three hosts, and their brand of shtick. If there was an odd epsiode of interest i might listen in to some of it but that was about it.

The other two, Marcus and Henry knew. Of course its probably not provable as it stands now, but id argue they knew. Maybe not every single thing but id hazard a betting wage that they knew enough to have an opinion as to Ben’s actions. As close as the three of them were/are, theres very little room to not know whats going on. We arent talking about the new neighbor who moved in middle of last week, and totally keeps to himself, we are talking about drinking buddies, we’re talking about guys that spent time on the road together, in hotels together, in restaurants together. Guys who had superficial and likely meaningful conversation together. Guys who got moments, however brief, to see into the windows of eachothers souls. Drunk, sober, coked to the gills, hung over, around themselves, and around attractive strangers.

You don’t spend the amount of time they have, in the proximity they have, and not know something is rotten in fuckin Denmark.

Dude deserves every bit of shit he gets, as well as the other two. Complicit is a word that exists for just such occasions.

Apparently Ben’s first victim had told Henry about the verbal abuse, but had also asked Henry not to tell others about it. That’s gotta be tough.
It seems like they knew he was troubled, they tried to get him to quit drinking a bunch. I don’t know if they knew more than that, abusers can be good at hiding stuff.

Never listened to much of LPOTL but then again, I’m not a huge true crime guy, more like a weird shit and mysteries guy
