But they won’t. Why would they?
Well they actually did. This is from leaked Google store pages for the new Pixels.
Why wouldn’t they?
Because doing so is, to people who run businesses, throwing money in the dumpster
Google has one advantage over other Android device makers. They make profit off of the Play Store at a much higher rate than they do from hardware sales. If this change brings more people over from iOS to Android, it will be an overall win for them.
Because they can say they will, possibly sell slightly more than they predicted. And then in 2 years say that they cannot support it anymore anyway.
Because they don’t have a monopolistic position in this market yet.

No, i don’t think i will. How bout i just leave your site instead?
Ya, how dare a website gets revenue to pay their writers and server host.
They could show you where the ads will be placed and display a non-intrusive message saying please whitelist this site, then I would consider it.
If they aggressively ask me to turn off my adblocker with pops up and such, then I am just going to leave the site or block the popups. Sites push the most cancer ads and are then surprised when people want nothing to do with them.Okay, and when you wonder why websites shut down, it’s because people like you.
Leaving the site is fine. Blocking their pop-up is just stealing their bandwidth.
You’re the reason many websites have become pay per view, which then I’m sure you removed about. Nothing in life is free. Either you pay to access, or you view ads.
It’s actually sad that you’re upset that a website is asking you to disable Adblock so they can continue to fund their website, and provide you with free content.
Ads are malware (sometimes literally, I think there was a post about exactly that in this very community), everyone should be in control of what they see on their own device.
Blocking their pop-up is just stealing their bandwidth.
Lol, I bet you wouldn’t download a car either.
I am willing to pay if i must, but not with ads. I dont use any particular site enough to justify a subscription, but i would be perfectly willing to pay say 1 millenero (0.001 monero) to read the article.
And I’m willing to pay tree fitty for iPhone 15. take that.
This is not your kindergarten playtime where you set the price and pay it with fake money. Shove that crypto up yo…
I am willing to pay if i must
of course bud, we believe you. 💯
So you’re basically saying you’re not willing to pay at all, because crypto is not real money.
it gives you the option to continue without disabling lol
Oh, i did not see that. Oopse
Yeah I don’t notice a lot of the time with these websites too. They’re really good at hiding the option to continue without disabling ads
Got the same on Vivaldi(mobile), then I opened the URL in Firefox(mobile), and I guess thanks to uBlock origin, I was able to read the whole article.
I used firefox to open it, but i have a DNS level adblock in place.
Ah yes, DNS adblocking has its uses, but it’s a lot less versatile than an adblocker in your browser. Your point is valid, though. If the website is going to fight your adblocker, maybe just don’t go to that website.
I could start levitating. But I won’t.
And pigs could fly - but they don’t

That word is doing a tonne of work here
So which Pixel hardware survived seven years in the past? 🤔
Still have the OG Pixel XL for unlimited image/video backup. Released in 2016. battery doesn’t last long, a little burn in but still works well with Android 10.
Without replaceable batteries, there’s no way I’m holding onto a phone for that long.
The batteries are replaceable. Just not user-replaceable and therefore a bit more expensive. Typically $80-100 a pop for Pixels.
Still on a pixel 2
How on earth did you not have that bullshit battery disconnect issue.
I had three of them, after a certain period of time it would always show 50% battery and not charge. Just death.
They eventually upgraded me to a 5a, that I’ve had for a few years but I’m astonished that anyone still has a pixel 2.
I totally trust them this time…
Are they really starting to put 1tb of storage in phones? I still see phones with 64gb on the market. 😔
Flash storage has gotten dirt cheap. 64GB is just insulting. Hell, I wouldn’t even accept 128GB nowadays, it probably only costs manufacturers a few dollars to double that. But of course they upcharge us $100.
Sure, but my IT brain says “the more data, the more you have to back up.” Which adds up quickly when you’re doing 3-2-1 backups and GFS backups and such.
I have a Pixel 6 and after 1 year the battery is terrible. I intend to move to Pixel 8 because of longer updates and Desktop Mode. Unfortunately they don’t have removable batteries yet.
If they would just offer an official replacement service like Apple does for the iPhone then this could be my next phone. Sure its expensive (around £85 for an iPhone 12 Pro), and sure it is often easier to get some random 3rd party shop to replace your battery but I would rather pay more for less risk with the replacement.
They do have authorized repair services at least in Canada and the US. Battery replacement with a genuine part is $80-100.
Don’t, you don’t need a new phone as phones have reached peak performance. I would suggest you to try installing graphene OS or any other custom roms from XDA. If you dont know how then ask someone who’s tech savvy and they will make your old phone, a brand new phone.
Really? With average usage, my 6a ends the day at 70%+
Maybe you got a lot of crap running
My 6 Pro’s battery is nearly as good as new after 2 years.
No, I am already using GrapheneOS and all apps that I am not using are disabled.
That’s odd cuz I’m also using GrapheneOS. Pixel 7 should have a better battery then my 6a
I have an almost 2 year old pixel 6 too and I’m thinking the same thing. I really wanted to keep this for longer but I’m not sure I can justify buying a replacement battery when I know that the 8 will be supported for longer.

I totally would, but I have the Verizon pixel 6 unfortunately.
I am thinking exactly the same. Probably I will give my Pixel 6 to my father and buy a new Pixel 8 because of the longer support.
I am already using GrapheneOS. I realized this problem with my battery after August Android Update.
While on an fairphone where a “normal” user can change various parts himself it makes sense, how does this workout on a pixel or any other “not for selfrepair” built device?
A screen module of the fairphone is 70€, so you drop it and change the screen yourself. Continuing to use it.
More than 4/5 years updates with batteries dying due to fast/ultra charged cycles doesn’t make sense in my point of view.
They will for sure require original parts installed in the manufacturer repair shop.

Man and I just bought a new phone like 2 months ago… I would have much preferred this for the longevity
I’d love to see that happen. At the very least security updates. It’s a shame when a device stops getting updates rendering it an insecure device despite the hardware still being capable of quality performance. Especially with phones costing more than laptops.
