History major here. Man, this one hurts.
I didn’t study history in a formal setting - I’m more of just an enthusiast/nerd for it - and it still hurts.
glances sideways at Florida Nazi demonstrators
Guys I think … I’m feeling some ‘disturbance in the force’ vibes here …
Sometimes people want to repeat history, except for the “the Confederacy and Nazis lost” parts.
That’s what’s so horrible about this. This time, the bad guys won.
Knowing about Napoleon’s blunder at trying to invade Russia, and Hitler doing something similar in WW2 while also being supposedly a fan of Napoleon, I always like to say that Hitler admired Napoleon so much, he emulated even his failures.
There’s probably a lesson in hubris to be found there. I wouldnt be surprised to hear Adolf thought he would succeed where others had failed.
“The lesson of history is no one learns.”
It’s recently brought to my attention that most of history is repeated, even though many people especially those in power are versed in it. That it seems like we need to fundamentally change the way we see and pass on history in order to actually learn anything from it.
No one thinks they are like the last one. They are so arrogant they think that their motivation is different.
The bad guys learned from their mistakes and prevented the public from being able to survive making a mistake.
Last stop, Airstrip One. Get off or get put in Room 101 sooner. Don’t let the climate change kill you on the way out. We are completely fucked. Excuse me while I sleep another full day to escape to my dreams.

A drawing of two men, sitting in a library room. The younger-looking man is sitting in a wooden chair and reading a book, while the older-looking man is sitting in an armchair, a tea cup and open book on the small, round coffee table beside him. The older man is saying: ‘“Those who don’t study history are doomed to repeat it. Yet those who do study history are doomed to stand by helplessly while everyone else repeats it.”’

Lol fuck no. You are volatile, you have the ability to stand out of the way.
genuinely no clue what this is even supposed to mean
Meth
Volatility here meaning being able to change a lot faster than your environment. You are not sinking with the masses. You have the ability to get ahead on issues and not suffer them nearly as much as you would otherwise.
How do I do this with climate change as a ordinary person? Genuinely asking, because right now at this moment I feel we’re Fucked.
Move to northern Canada or a Nordic country while you still have time to do so basically
Northern Canada is covered in permafrost. In 20 years that’s going to be underwater or very close to it.
You dont. You are the one moving not climate change. You are almost surely not eligible to be able to solve it.
You can get to better climate, some places can get consequentally colder actually. Historically there are safe havens as well.
You can also try moving up the hierarchy and make it affect your life less. It might be hard for most people, but it is kind of achevable for you. You will be less prone to the effects of climate change.
I never said you help others.
Aka moving to another country
Move where? The homogenization of the internet really has extremism rising everywhere, just at different speeds.
And as a non-citizen, I wouldn’t even be able to participate in a lot of political activities like voting (except maybe local elections, depending on the place). “Move somewhere else” isn’t the catch all solution one might think.
+ fleeing from the problem won’t solve it
