Mass Effect games are often praised for their cinematic storytelling and exceptional companions, but the series’ unique approach to enemies is often overlooked.

Like… within factions or overall? I’m not really certain how ME3 did enemies that well, tbh.

Most of what you’d say about the enemy factions or units is going to be based on their defense types and how you handle them, which seems more like a positive aspect of the combat and class system more than enemy design.

Sure you have a good mix of ranged and melee based enemies that keep the 3rd person shooting from getting stale and being a Gears clone, but ME2 had that as well. 3 just capitalized on it in ways that the more advanced movement system allowed for.

All that being said I don’t think Mass Effect has exceptional AI or enemy design, it’s just good for the combat loops they created.
