Horner expects Ricciardo to target Singapore GP return

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has been speaking on Sky Sports about Daniel Ricciardo’s injury, providing some updates.Ricciardo has flown to Barcelona to see a hand and arm injury specialist, Dr Javier Mir, who has experience working with MotoGP riders. He also operated on Lance Stroll, who broke one wrist and put a hairline fracture in the other in a preseason cycling accident — and was in the car just 12 days later.“They may even have a little operation on him tomorrow to just tidy up where that break is. It’s quite a clean break,” Horner said. “Of course it’s all about the recuperation and how long that takes. Any normal human being would probably be about 10 to 12 weeks, but we know these guys aren’t normal.“So it’ll all be about the recovery process, how long that will take, is it going to be three weeks, is it a month, is it six weeks, nobody really knows.”Horner said the fact the Ricciardo’s injury had come so soon after his F1 return, just as he was getting his mojo back, is “the thing he was most frustrated about.”“I’m sure at the back of his mind, he’s got Singapore as a target,” Horner said. “But then again, Singapore is probably one of the toughest circuits on the calendar. Nature will take its course.”Should Singapore be Ricciardo’s comeback race on Sept. 17, it would mean Liam Lawson gets another chance in the car for the Italian Grand Prix next weekend at Monza.

    Im not sure we’ll see him race in Singapore. That track is really physically demanding, I doubt he’ll be able to make it. What bad luck…

      His replacement getting 20th in q3 doesn’t seem like too much of an immediate threat

        Liam has had 1 free practice to get up to speed and immediately has to deal with very sketchy conditions. Multiple big names made mistakes today, I totally get that he didn’t want to push it too hard. I don’t think we should expect more from him than P20 this weekend. This result really doesn’t tell us anything.

          Lmao you’re making a lot of assumptions. Even with his piss poor performance the last couple years, his brand is huge. That’s why RBR hired him without a seat. Saying that his seat is threatened is a pretty big leap at this point with no data yet to back it up.
