I just checked out fWallet and it doesn’t support importing random PDFs so that’s a huge downside to me since a lot of events I attend only send a PDF with barcodes/QR codes.

Okay, I’m convinced. 😂
How are China’s stringent lockdowns explained in this conspiracy theory? Also, where do I sign up as a member?
Awesome, thanks!
Where does something like “use a DC motor to build a tiny little fan” stand, in terms of safety?
Thanks, fire safety concerns have definitely played a major role in why I haven’t actually started building stuff. I’ll keep this in mind.
What you said makes sense. To provide context for why I am/was looking for the exact opposite –
I have a long string of failed hobbies and junk accumulated from all the stuff I’ve bought for them. I carry a ton of guilt because of this.
I guess I’m too hesitant to buy parts and have them lying around if I don’t end up using them all if I abandon this too. That’s the reason why I was hoping to buy a fixed set of parts for specific projects so that way I can at least convince myself that I used it all at least once.
Thanks for the helpful links. :)
And whatever you do, don’t watch the sequel. It’s quality is the exact opposite of the first movie.

I’ve had this thought for a while and I definitely agree that a lot of software I’ve built is a net negative to society as a whole and the only reason why I get paid as well as I do is because I’m helping rich assholes suck value out of society more efficiently.
For instance, I’ve worked on CMSs that automated 90% of the processes for medium-large insurance companies. Sure, it may result in a marginal price reduction for insureds (lol), but it almost certainly has led to fewer staff being hired to the benefit of the overlords. If more and more middle-class white-collar jobs gets replaced by software, that helps put downward pressure on wages. At the end of it all, are the marginally lower prices worth it to society, when everyone has a lower wage or no well paying job forcing them to participate in the gig economy and such?
It’s a depressing thought, and I’ve been trying to break into research engineering roles or something of the sort to get away from my current role but it’s been an uphill task.
We already have contracts in place to get security patches. That’s usually the InfoSec team’s problem anyway.
As a developer, my life gets hard due to library support. We manage internal forks of multiple open source projects just to make them python 2 compatible. A non-trivial amount of time is wasted on this, and we don’t even have it available for public use. 🤷♂️
What about contamination in disaster sites like Chernobyl or Fukushima? Is that also mainly radioactive substances that we’re spread around the area by air/water making the whole place dangerous to live or are other previously-non-radioactive objects radioactive now?
My company makes it super easy for me - we’re just going to continue on python 2.7 and add this to the long list of reasons why we’re not upgrading.
Please send help.
“I shouldn’t give them money because drugs”
I have a roof over my head, eat thrice a day, and have a loving family. Yet there are days when I want to drown myself in alcohol or weed. Who am I to judge a homeless person if they choose to do drugs and forget their suffering for a little while?
I always give money, if anything, to the few of them in my neighborhood. Whether it’s food , clothes, drugs or something else - they know what they need better than I know it.
Bro, which company expected you to do a take home assignment that took 2.5 months? Name and shame the fuckers.
