Hopefully this makes some of the Firefox shills finally realize it’s time to change our recommendations.
I’ve heard so much shit lately about Firefox, it has become a sinking ship and I’m eager to see who picks up the shards and runs with it.
In every evaluation Reuters was the only one reported slightly left leaning. AP is very dry and fact-based and therefore neutral, CNN is neutral to slightly right leaning iirc. News Max and OAN are both strongly right leaning.
Fox News is also still strongly right leaning. Tell me one time Fox News tried to push for equality, gun control, or universal basic income. Instead you can find pro gun content, strong defenses for very conservative politicians who are periodically being given a platform and they are regularly talking about how businesses should get more financial aid.
My guy, we can politically disagree but there is not a universe in which fox news is left leaning. Objectively not.
To me it’s just a passion some ppl have. I used to be more into it (never did it), but as with every passion, you can get blinded by the flashiness of the people who wanna sell you a specific technique or way to do something.
I think you are right, one can get trapped very easily in the pitfalls of the superhuman, but the actual benefits are rooted in the basic.
Other examples: there’s a lot of benefits to general fitness exercises, but the fitness bros will sell you their one and only way to get extremely muscular (which most people don’t even start out striving for). Or games, where people push you to be the very best, although the actual benefit is in having fun and keeping your brain sharp. Or creative hobbies, where a lot of people strive for the spotlight, but the actual benefit is when you do it for yourself and do what you want, regardless of what other people think.
It’s a hard balance but I guess that’s just life.
Everything about this is ridiculous.
I made course for 11th and 12th graders together with a friend when I at university. It was only one week long and the topic was neural networks (we hit the timing right, it was 3 years before the AI hype started).
I did that experiment where you give the students 5 random places and amount of time out of a week. You say that is the movement profile of a fictional person and the students have to find out why those places matter.
Makes them learn the importance of information and how linking data can be an insane tool for understanding as something. But it also teaches how easy it is to gather information from small data points and self aware you should be about your digital footprint.

A lot of people do, but a lot of people don’t.
They may have months without any time surplus. And then maybe some months where they do have a significant time surplus.
But never assume everyone has the same time to dedicate to things.
My mom is currently working 50h weeks and I’m sure that’s on the lower end for some people. I’d prefer her to focus on not getting burnout so she is able to survive a bit longer, and that means she physically can’t.
No one uses Boolean values anyway and with the amount of resources available on modern systems we can just replace them with integers and we should be fine. This also makes it easier to teach people, as they would learn less different data types.

As a software dev, I’m using windows and I know I shouldn’t switch.
Tbh it’s even worse, I can not switch. And that’s why it’s even more ridiculous. Linux power users like to say that you can do everything you can in windows but with more control. And with “control” they are right, but with “everything” more than wrong. Everything that’s not working out of the box is a gamble on time wasted getting said thing to work. For the simplest thing you can be stuck for weeks just by sheer bad luck.
Say you are a software dev? Yeah Linux is pretty solid.
3d artist? Meh. Blender is the last thing that works, otherwise you are stuck. Octane, 3ds max, Maya, c4d, Houdini, v-ray, real flow, … You gotta be lucky to find them to be compatible even if it’s only with a workaround.
Music production? Well you are stuck on LMMS, which is basically only used by very specific experimental artists. Also plugins, especially those with copyright protection will give you one hell of a hard time.
Images? Well gimp is not Photoshop if we’re honest, and stuff like coreldraw is also hard to replace on Linux.
Video cutting? You have to carefully tip toe about everything Adobe, and that’s an awful hassle. And because everyone would love to give Adobe the middle finger, we are slowly realizing how hard it is to replace Adobe and that if you go somewhere, it is not working as well by default, you have to really make it work.
And especially in big enterprises time is money. So every time someone thinks about where to migrate to, how to migrate, or when they are migrating, and than when they have to propose new workflows, new solutions, a bunch of workarounds, maintenance pipelines, etc. it’s just not worth it. Not on a big company scale, and unfortunately also not on a me scale.
At the end of the day, an OS is a tool to me, not a lifestyle choice, a hobby or a commitment. And it shouldn’t be. As long as Linux is at least 2 of those things for everyone that’s not using it, it’s not very compelling to switch. And that goes for every distro.
Btw. this is the reason why I can understand people using apple over windows. Yeah it’s 1000 bucks to take like 20min less to do a thing. But it stacks up exponentially with every device that integrates into Apple’s universe. And if you spend even 20min less per day, that’s already more than 2h per week that you now have to dedicate to other things.
I’m not rich and this doesn’t entice me, but I get it.
So yeah, make a distro that’s not only modular and expendable,but make it also very easy to understand and make it as easy. And make it either as compatible with Windows software or add those features in a different way. And then people like me can dream about a FOSS universe for everyone.
For people who want something older that’s well documented: SDXL
For people who want the new fancy thing: Flux (vram hungry with 16fp dev, but you can go 8p or you can use the schnell variant, which just means “fast”)
For people who want the faster image generation: SDXL lightning.
For tools, people are split on using either python/huggingface, the automatic1111 webui or comfy UI, which is my personal favourite.
There’s always a risk but considering currently there’s no incentive for ppl to invest their time and sanity, I think you’re fine.
Unless you do stupid things. No one is liable if you do stupid things :)
I can’t remember exactly, but there was some shit going on with contract terms or monopolistic market behavior or something.

Hate on billionaires all you want, but a platform like this shouldn’t be forced to moderate. It runs completely counter to the USP of the app. It’s encrypted anonymous communication capabilities.
I don’t know if there’s ads in there, but I think a bigger part of your description matches with “Pou”.
Windows.
My hobbies and my work require a lot of different software. On MacOS everything would be expensive af and not customizable at all.
On Linux only 50% of the stuff would work, only 50% of that would work well and stable, and only 50% can be installed in less than 3h. And I need my software to be up and running in 7 days not 5 months.
I put this in another post as well, but the toxic positive endorsements of Linux really tick me off. If you use it, cool. If you like it, cool. If you wanna tell others it’s nice, cool.
But if you have to tell ppl how they are using the wrong OS, windows, on almost completely unrelated posts, you make ppl dislike the Linux community, you downplay that Linux can be a serious commitment and that mileage may vary, speaking from experience. You are doing an active disservice to everyone.
Everyone has their own os, and just how I can appreciate that ppl have good reason to use MacOS, Linux Users should be able to appreciate that ppl like me can not switch and even if they do, it is often not worth it in any way.
Also if I get down votes so be it, I think this just needs to be said rn. No hate for anyone using any OS, in fact I’m curious about the other comments:)
It’s actually a really nice thing to know that (a) your country makes sure you get into less accidents and (b) that your company usually pays for any workplace accidents, even if it’s remote.
I work remotely at a company in the EU where they actually host seminars about posture and stuff because it’s better for them than dealing with workplace injury from bad posture.
Idk, every company is different and so is every country.
But let me also make clear, I’m not arguing this isn’t odd. Just some things to rule out before going mayhem.
