I’m trying to show someone that Pol Pot was a bad person as soon as possible. He doesn’t know much about him. Just don’t want him to get swept up in anything that he’ll regret.
US support was primarily after Vietnam had taken Cambodia. This included funding the Khmer Rouge, voting to have the Khmer Rouge (and later Khmer Rouge-dominated coalition government) retain control of Cambodia’s UN seat, and allowing China/Thailand to continue training and arming the Khmer Rouge. This was done primarily to punish Vietnam after the US withdrew and to restrict Soviet influence in SE Asia. Only after Vietnam left Cambodia did the US started supporting (or at least stopped blocking) the prosecution of Pol Pot. This gets into some very dark times of PRC foreign policy during Sino-Soviet split

Thank you!
This sounds urgent so I don’t have any resources but one thing you can try is go to /r/communism101 and search for “Pol Pot” and see if something comes up.
Thanks! Anyways, I managed to convince him.
