Like I know from the 1940s to 1970s America was a semi social democracy, I’d say more closer to the Adam Smith welfare net or Keynesian economics? I’m not sure but anyways then come Ronald Reagan and that’s what Neoliberalism starts and has been the latest stage of capitalism. My question is what exactly were the material conditions in the late 70s to 80s that made it so liberal nations begin their austerity privatization crap? The Soviet countries were still around and so was the eastern bloc so what changed?

I think the drug war is also a big one. The criminalization of many drugs and the government introducing many drugs to poor communities giving them an “excuse” to militarize police. White people in the 40s truly enjoyed the concessions made during those times which didn’t extend to the black communities. That generational wealth that the right likes to deny. White workers were indeed very poor, before the 40s. Add the lack of support for black communities because of Jim Crow and the austerity of the 80s, the ones to get hit first were no doubt the black communities.
