I’ll be attending to see if I can form a more concrete opinion on the party!

I just attended this call, so that’s my first interaction with CPUSA. I was pretty impressed. Cory Bush was there, so I was very surprised to see a congress person at something organized by communists. Although she herself never said explicitly Marxist. Hardly anyone did really, I understand they are trying to broaden their coalitions but of course I was a little dissapointed there wasn’t Lenin banners flying everywhere. But of course they had all sorts of speakers, Labor union people, indigenous rights people, so I see the low key strategy is helping bring in people from a super Marxist background. Still, I did feel like I was just at another DSA event lol. But I’m sure more internal meeting that don’t face the public so much are more deep into the theory. I don’t think I ever even heard anyone say “communism”. I hope it’s worth it to keep that scary communist rhetoric on the down low lol. I would love to hear more from people who are more innetiated to CPUSA

Glad you attended. I agree, definitely. There’s the work CPUSA does as a part of broader coalitions where it’s much less overtly Marxist-Leninist, and then we have more reading groups and theory discussions internally where we don’t have to worry about alienating people that aren’t ready for that plunge. Leadership is definitely well-read on theory (Joe Sims was the editor of Political Affairs when it was active). A good example of the broad-base vs internal party stuff is if you compare articles on People’s World to the CPUSA site.
