Looks like the forced sale to M$ didn’t go through.

    From the article:

The concern stems from the data that TikTok and WeChat collects on their US users, as well as the perceived inability of Chinese companies like ByteDance and TenCent to reject requests from China’s ruling Communist Party (CCP) access that data. Often cited by critics of China is a 2017 law that requires its companies and citizens to comply with all matters of national security.

    Hypocrisy level 1000.

Also, when US companies do that, it’s all allowed because “free market” and stuff. They justify all sort of other bad things with that it’s allowed on “free market”, too. But as soon as they decide that Chinese companies are a threat to them, they throw all of the “free market” principles out of the window and try to force sell it to M$. Or prohibit it outright when that doesn’t work.

Worst part is how they straight up lie about privacy issues. If you know anything about the American internet ecosystem, you know that the legislators do not give a flying fuck about the privacy of end users.

China was smart to firewall off FANG. In India, they were allow unbridled access and they have wiped out any Indian competitors they had. Now the government is trying to safeguard Indian corporations. Good luck with that, chumps.

RIP CHINA. What a pathetic reaction to the slow death of US hegemony.

I’m not sure how this is gonna play out, seems like it’ll be a long, drawn out thing.

hopefully, many countries will ban google and facebook after this, and non-google smartphones become more widely available

if it does actually happen, I believe the most likely way this will be done is removal from the Google play store and you can still get the program direct from the website to install on any new phones

However at this stage, everyone should attempt to move to non-google phones. This is sadly quite difficult for many smartphones since they have hardware that has a firmware made only for the android

If they do an actual internet blockage, VPN
