I’ve only recently heard about him while watching a documentary and he’s sounds well educted about the general idea of socialsm/communism,eventhough I don’t think he’s a ML. I really don’t know much about him and I’m wondering if he truly does what he preaches

He suggested an alliance with the other biggest ‘gang’ in Haiti against the UN invasion (headed by Kenya), so he seems generally progressive.

I actually think he’s as close as can be to ML under the conditions he’s in, though it does help that the newspaper that most closely supports him is also ML. He has a clear understanding of class and imperialism, and he either read Fanon or came to the exact same conclusions through lived experience. But he obviously is not producing a party with democratic centralism, as the conditions of the struggle are much different.

On the criticisms, he often is reckless (specially with his own life) and has been blindly optimistic in the past about the functioning of Viv Ansanm or of the possibility of peaceful resolution to the pseudogovernment (specifically Ariel Henry). I also think he’s too humble to admit that, in case of complete victory, he’s going to have to be in charge of the country in some capacity.

There isn’t much reliable coverage on ground floor Haiti on the internet, specially not in English, so it’s hard to dicern what exactly is going on, but his occupation of Lower Delmas seems to be everything that he advertised, though obviously the living conditions are still really bad. You can clearly compare the state of the roads and houses from 2022 and 2024 in videos.

He also seems to have finally gotten the hang of controlling the gangs beyond idealistic nationalism. But there isn’t much that can be done without overthrowing the TPC.

He’s not a guerrilla fighter, and all that he has built has only miraculously held together because the US and Canada are not in a condition to actually invade Haiti again, and China and Russia are positioning themselves to prevent the use of the UN for another MINUSTAH. Even if he completely takes over the Port-au-Prince, it’ll be a protracted struggle for the rest of the country.

He posts a lot on tiktok, just search for Jimmy Cherizier. It’s all in Creole obviously, but it’s better than nothing. Overall I hold a positive view, and given he was one of the few sanctioned since 2018 in Haiti, I think the US agrees.
