I’ve been trying to eat out less, but I have an excuse I swear lol. My fridge and freezer are being repaired so in the meantime I have to eat out more, it costs a bit more but Im not complaining, I love to eat out. I went to a Chinese restaurant that’s a 4 minute walk from my house. I’ve been going there for years and years and we sorta know the owner a tiny bit, our grandparents and uncles and aunts go there and never get bad service or small portions or problems with the food. The reason I mention it is because I decided to check out their enormous menu and I saw reviews. There was like one single 1star review from some old white boomer who said the portions and prices were not as good as like the cheapest shittiest Chinese restaurant in town (of course it’s better priced and more portions, its made shittier, and doesn’t use as many ingredients) and they went on to say that the “Chinese hostess was very short with us and was nearly unintelligible.” I didn’t get pissed or anything but I didn’t like that. 1.) why describe the hostess as Chinese? It’s a Chinese family owned restaurant, it’s safe to assume they are nearly all Chinese and that doesn’t really narrow things down, seems more like a way to be subtly racist. 2.) Maybe they were short with you because you were probably acting like an entitled ass from the jump. 3.) they DO speak English, do they have an accent? Yes, but you can easily understand everyone there. It’s not like they just learned English today or something, they’ve been here for years. The food was absolutely delicious. Whatever, their loss, they’re missing out on good food and good service. No other real reason for this post lol sorry if this was boring.

I was looking up things to do this summer. I like to look at the one star reviews of attractions, restaurants, etc, because it sometimes gives a better indication of whether I’ll like it than the five star reviews (some people are very easily impressed). Whereas two-to-four star reviews try to be a bit more honest but tend to miss the mark. Like, ‘3 star. Best food I ever tasted and the waitress was great but it was cloudy outside’.

Anyway, there’s a lady who has reviewed loads of restaurants, etc. All five star. McDonald’s. KFC. The local cafe, etc. Except for the Indian restaurant – one star. So I think, that’s a bit strange. Like how can you think the Macdonald’s is haute cuisine, then give a family run place a terrible score. So I click on the lady’s reviews and notice that she must love curry, because she’s been to Indian restaurants all over the country. And given every single one a one star review.

Now I’ve got to ask myself, why would someone keep sampling a type of food if they clearly hate that type of food? Unless, they do like that food, but there’s something else about the type of restaurant that serves that food… my guess is this reviewer is racist.

Anyway, I think you’re right. And I think it’s become(?) common for a certain kind of racist to exact their racism through online reviews. It’s the online equivalent of being an aggressive driver behind the safety of one’s windshied. The ease with which e.g. Google lets people leave secretly racist reviews is a problem.

Hopefully other people spot and ignore the racism in the one star review that you found.

    Edit, typo

“The silent majority”, as they say.
