Also answering @SleepyCat@lemmygrad.ml: First of all, I chose a random alphanumeric combination for the geographical part of the code. I didn’t have a HGttG book at hand for reference, although I have read them before. As for the astronomical part, “G2V” is the classification of the sun based on its size, colour, and luminosity, “1” for the first star we knew of this class (the sun itself), and “d” for the fourth most central object in its system including the star itself; that is the Earth.

I chose such a code in place of a geographical name for a number of reasons. First of all, during socialism we gradually need to converge towards a centralised world government with a clear separation of duties between its levels. Regional (including current national) cultural identities do need to be protected and respected by the local level of government, but if we learnt anything of the fall of the USSR or Yugoslavia (by the way, notice how the abbreviation “USSR” doesn’t contain any geography in it either!), they should not be getting any ideas of nationalistic separatism, and I think it is a big step towards avoiding this danger to no longer openly include national or regional nouns on documents that pertain to administration. This would also work to cleanse the government of dangerous national-romantic elements as they may exist e.g. in a military of an area that has recently transitioned from capitalism towards socialism.

Also, where corruption and nepotism are still a problem, it would remedy the boost in ego and social status that comes with being related to a representative of the government. Undeserved privileges are more frequently afforded to the son of the chancellor of Germany than they would be to the son of the administrative undersecretary of zone G2V.1d/Q3-01.

Finally, after deliberating for too long on the mundane benefits of the sober, rigorously bureaucratised former part of the designation, I feel like you don’t need any explanation as to why it is plain AWESOME for your postal address, your diploma, or your passport to feature the words “the Milky Way” in it. If in the former part, the fake and pathetic dream of extolling one particular patch of dirt above all else dissolves into a mercilessly neutral and entropic stream of letters and numbers, this latter part serves to continuously build up the new dream, one much greater and more beautiful than the previous one, and humbling in its scope and grandeur.
