Because they want to be seen as neutrals. But they do side with Russia a lot in this conflict

US must have been working over time to threaten a lot of countries for this vote, and this tweet indicates that they indeed intend to bully any countries that did not fall in line: https://twitter.com/TiborPNagyJr/status/1628883826830106624?s=20

It’s okay, they can have their empty PR stunts. The lines in the sand have already been drawn and the global south has made it clear that they will not get involved and look increasingly to China and Russia as economic partners

Pretty par for the course. There are lots of examples of U.S. officials explicitly withholding “aid” (which is of course a topic worthy of millions of words in itself) from countries because they did not align with them on votes just like this one.

Honestly not entirely sure, its a good assumption that only the US/maybe some other western nations do it, but its still an assumption

Because they are in favor of Russia leaving Ukraine… once a reasonable compromise with Russia that respects its concerns is reached. Also they’re trying to appear reasonable, like neutral, trustworthy independent parties to the situation rather than being pushed directly into “Russia’s corner” or “NATO corner”.

As the resolution has no real power as Russia is a permanent member of the UN security council and also has nukes it’s just for political reasons that they voted a certain way. Likely so the US can’t use an against vote against them and shop it around to other countries in a future situation to convince them to vote against China.

    It’s just politicking.

God fucking damn and I thought linear algebra was hard. How much fucking resources that could have helped people does the world collectively use playing the biggest and shittiest game of chess?
