Perhaps it is a coping mechanism. Because reality hurts. Online you may be PUSSAYSLAYERXXXX420, all cool and sheet. But turn off the computer and see your reflection staring back from the empty monitor. You’re tired. Anxious. You pump yourself with caffeine every morning just to hide the fact you’re being sucked dry by the system. You act smug and unphased, because you know you’re part of the Empire of Evil. And even then you’re getting fleeced. So you log back in, to act cool and detached, to call people half tbe world across racist slurs, to post memes that grow ever more nonsensical. They’re not even funny anymore. And you do that over and over and over again, just to avoid that empty monitor and your own reflection.
