On Saturday, 31 December 2022, at around 3:00 P.M., five settlers arrived in an ATV at the home of the Abu ‘Awwad family in the community of Widady. The settlers, some of whom had handguns, brought a dog with them. They walked around near the house saying to the Palestinian residents that the land was theirs, and a verbal altercation ensued between the settlers and the family members. One of the settlers was filmed swearing at one of the family members and threatening to shoot him in the head “Take out the gun and I’ll shoot you.” A settler was filmed headbutting that same family member.

Another family member, Saleh Abu ‘Awwad (37), called the police. Officers came to a nearby road after the settlers had already left and suggested Saleh, who went to meet them there, file another complaint with the police. About a week earlier, on 24 December 2022, two armed settlers entered the community with a dog and attacked one of its residents.

Yesterday, 4 January 2023, one of the settlers again arrived in the community in a military jeep with a soldier and stopped near the family’s house. When one of the family members began walking towards the jeep, less than a minute after it arrived, it drove away.
