yes, he was the one who published the leaked conversations that proved that Lula’s arrest was illegal, but since then he has taken a turn to the right

Not to sound conspiratorial or anything, but perhaps someone (or some institution) has started paying better.

Isn’t it interesting that he got a huge payoff to come to the Intercept at its beginning, while he still had the whole Snowden treasure trove? And then published absolutely nothing more of it.

That’s one interpretation and likely one level of what happened. I just can’t help but think that something else happened. The Intercept was founded and is funded by billionaire Pierre Omidyar of Ebay fame, a guy with possible connections to intelligence and one who in his “philanthropy” takes after George Soros. He seems like just the sort of ruling class character who would buy off Greenwald and Poitras to protect the surveillance state.

He’s a journalist. Journalists think that nothing is more important than their ability to say whatever they want. Hence, they fetishize free speech, even when that speech is hateful, harmful, or even flat-out false.

I’ve looked at his Wikipedia page caus I didn’t know him and I was surprised because he’s right about a lot of things. He even claimed the biolabs in Ukraine were US-funded.

But in fact this particular take isn’t inconsistent with his dogmas because he clearly isn’t a socialist of any kind. He might be promoting good criticism of the US but as any radlib he will reject any attempt to challenge the system and ideology that enable what he denounced.

He used to be a lot better, when he was focusing on covering the Patriot Act and state surveillance more specifically. More opaquely anti-imperialist. Right around the time Jimmy Dore fell off his rocker is when Glenn Greenwald followed, iirc, and started courting the right way more than the left.

Social media can be used as a dangerous weapon, it needs to be treated as such.

He reported on some judge ordering certain influential people be removed from platforms. This was done without trial or legal explanation. The judge in question isn’t your friend. He’s a member of the far right practicing judicial over reach in a manner that should at least be recognized as a novel development in Brazilian politics.

He’s a reporter. He reports things. He exposed the car wash scandal which helped Lula. Without his work Lula would be in jail.

Trying to make him sound like a friend of Bulsinaro, or that he somehow switched sides is completely idiotic. He’s not a socialist but he’s certainly not a right-winged opportunist. He’s not an opportunist by any means.

He’s been playing the same drum since the Snowden leaks.

Lula’s a middle of the road guy too. He’s a lesser evil candidate. He’s a move in the right direction, but he’s also a mixed bag at best.

Greenwald broke two of the biggest stories of the century. One of the comments below said they had to look up his bio on Wikipedia. Are you guys serious? How are you idiots going to try to make him seem like a right winger? Half of you guys can’t remember what happened yesterday and are jumping on some story you hardly understand no better than a liberal jumping to the defense of Ukraine without having known about the situation until the second they made a flash decision.

You don’t know what you’re talking about but you see something on twitter and come to some half baked reaction. In certain circumstances the rights of the bourgeois press should be limited, but it’s important to at least acknowledge who you’re handing over these new powers to. Brazil isn’t Venezuela. It’s certainly no Cuba. Venezuela withstood a much more threatening coup attempt and yet took a much more hands off approach, to the extent that the coup plotters were allowed to walk free. China likewise has had a number of crisis situations in the past years and they’ve always been very delicate with the way they handle them.
Cuba in the same vein doesn’t allow western social media sites as they’ve been proven to be tools of propaganda, but they’re still careful with how they deal with desent, even when the dissonance has foreign influence.

Brazil isn’t a left leaning government. Lula isn’t a left leaning president. He’s better than Bulsonaro, but that’s a low bar. Even if you think Brazil is justified in its actions, reporting on those actions doesn’t make Glenn Greenwald a “right winger”.

Learn a little bit of history before you open your mouth. Greenwald left the newspaper he founded over their censoring of his reporting on the Biden Laptop. He put himself in extreme danger twice over the reporting of the Snowden leaks and again over his reporting of the car wash scandal. If your over here calling him an opportunist then you’re an idiot and a burden on the community.

If you need to look up a bio on one of the biggest names in journalism then you need to rethink whether you have the right to speak at all.
