A part of me kind of wants this to occur because of how nonsensical this world is. Throw some more nonsense on top.

Although I’m sure the “pro-democracy” left and liberals would justify the move. “Putin’s b-basically a king anyway, so they’re just fighting fire with fire!”

The more hopeful side of me says that it would entirely destroy the discourse positing Ukraine as a bastion of freedom against Russian totalitarianism or whatever. But who knows, at this rate it’d probably just make monarchism more popular. Wouldn’t be good for leftists or proles in Ukraine either, although it’s not as if it’s currently going super well for them anyway - unions have been violently crushed and left-wingers have been imprisoned and executed. How much more blood could they draw from the stone, I wonder.

Spain, Britain and Sweden have been monarchies for centuries, and they are still upheld by liberals in this way. Especially Sweden. Canada is technically still part of the dominion and has English monarch as the actual head of state - but you’d never know it from the way online libs salivate at that country.

You are unfortunately utterly correct. It’s difficult to gauge how they’d react to a new monarchy forming I think, but most liberal viewpoints we’re exposed to originate from the superstructure first and foremost and we know MSM would be justifying it somehow.

If the Liberals think that monarchy worked, then they would expose their contradiction to their meritocracy slogan. They would also call into question to their claim that a person is only bad solely because the fake news claimed that person is a monarchist.

Absolutely… Any criticisms Ukraine flag-bearers levied towards the DPRK, the PRC as “undemocratic” would disintegrate under the slightest scrutiny. It would be a difficult contradiction to justify, but in the end they have already justified far worse.

Not to mention their flaccid and often orientalist criticisms of actual existing monarchies like Qatar and Kuwait becoming even more meaningless than they already are.
