I really wish this doesn’t happen, but to me it’s still within the realm of possibility, given how psychotic and bloodthirsty the US can get. In addition, I can see India finally losing it and tossing nukes at Pakistan provided it still keeps on being right-leaning.

Already happened with Islamic Countries like Afghanistan and Iran; though there are some Islamic countries that follow a liter version of it like Pakistan; and some that might as well be considered on their way to an Islamic Theocracy with countries like Malaysia; with its government having the gall to say that “All Malays are Muslim”.
And then you have Hindutva fascists trying to turn India into a Hindu Theostate, with them constantly doing “Ghar Wapsi” (meaning “Returning Home”, essentially forcing a non-hindu to convert to hinduism).

Eh, a lot of authors fall into the trap of hand waving the collapse of the current order. But even in a utopian possible outcome such as for example the Federation in Star Trek (who are undoubtedly communist), Earth still underwent a decades long world war of biblical proportions that ravaged the planet for centuries, coupled with climate disaster, unchecked capitalism, and insanely powerful fascist forces. So it is our cause to make sure our fate is not a hand waved conclusion.
This is my exact thinking. We’re the heroes that will lead to a revolutionary change, and are definitely the dark past backstory.
