So I discovered that there are trotskyists in my circle of acquaintances. I typically only meet Maoists and Anarchists, so this is a change. It’s weird that it is so easy to find all these communists without finding any ML types. Anyways…

Im curious about the so called trot to imperialist pipeline that I have heard people talk about. My only point of reference is Christopher Hitchens, who iirc went from criticizing Kissenger from a leftist point of view to the face of liberal imperialism and atheist Islamophobia.

Edit:

I also think it is interesting that Michael Hudson seems to have avoided this. Idk that he calls himself a trot anymore, but he was DEEP in the trotskyist scene as he grew up. His contributions have been very important and he hasn’t fallen down the imperialist slide the way Hitchens did.

In the west it seems that there are not many ML’s, which is kind of weird when the vast majority of “far-leftists” around the globe and Leninist. I’m guessing that’s because Anarchism is most compatible with liberalism when people realize the status quo is messed up, then maoists are somewhat common because there is a bit of a pipeline from anarchism, when one starts to become alienated from because they share many aspects (including disliking most AES which is compatible with anti-communist indoctrination), finally Trotskyism is also against most AES. On the Trotskyism to Neo-con pipeline, I’m not sure of the actual mechanism of it, but there are many examples of such a thing, as with the LaRoucheites who used to claim Marxism while simultaneously bashing CPUSA members’, and went on to deny climate change and call for the re-industrialization of the US to fight the evil CCP. Side note: I was trying to find out if Rupert Murdoch was a trot as a student, but wsws (trots) say he was a “Stalinist.”
