“I Am a Soldier” (Chinese: 我是一個兵; Wǒ shì yīgè bīng) is a Chinese song written in 1950 by Lu Yuan (a soldier in the PLA Fourth Field Army), shortly after the founding of the People’s Republic. The song signifies how the People’s Liberation Army of “New China” has firmly dispelled the disgraced reputation of soldiery under Nationalist “Old China”. It has since won several awards.
