"“We have documented that the children were not provided with water, were given water every other day. They were practically not given food,” Lubinets said.

“They used psychological pressure. They told them their parents had abandoned them and would not return.”…Lubinets did not provide evidence of his assertions. Reuters was unable to immediately confirm the veracity of his account."

First of all, the idea that the Russians had either the maliciousness or the patience to torture teenagers for such mundane things is ludicrous. Even under charges of espionage, suspects would likely be shipped elsewhere far away where they cannot be rescued by handlers (eg to Russia). Second of all, if this really happened, the Russians would have tried to conceal it, as the Imperial Japanese, who actually did do things like this, did near the end of WW2. They would have burned documents, evacuated personnel, killed witnesses, and blown up the buildings. The fact that the Ukrainians were able to claim these things with such detail is proof that Russia did not try to destroy any evidence, which proves that no such evidence existed in the first place. Lastly, there ARE NOT FUCKING PHOTOS OR VIDEOS OF THIS. NOTHING.

Not in the western mind. Back when this whole shitshow began this year I was talking to some online acquaintances from Britain, USA and other western European countries. They have pretty much universally honestly believed the atrocity propaganda. They believed that our artillery was targeting civilian buildings on purpose and that FSB has sent people to mark roofs for the strikes in advance. They believed wholesale the story about a “Russian tank purposefully swerving to crush a civilian car” (spoilers: it wasn’t Russian, it wasn’t on purpose and it wasn’t even a tank). When I pointed that out, one guy went “Yeah well Russians have captured Ukrainian gear!”. These are the people that had known me and other Russian citizens for several years by that point.

TL;DR: it’s only ridiculous because you’re using logic and actually think of us as human.

Yes, but this happening in special cells implies governmental sanction. What fucking government specially dedicates facilities for torturing teenagers for taking selfies and then lets them loose so they can blabber about it to the VSU? It makes no sense even assuming that every Russian soldier has a desire to butcher people.

TLDR even if Russians were literal orcs this makes no sense

Again, it makes sense in the liberal worldview. You’re using material analysis, they do not

I honestly have a sense that no one who genuinely knows anything about how atrocities are committed thinks that Russia is up to anything in Ukraine

Even if all of this were true, what would be the point? Russians are just so cartoonishly evil that they like to torture Ukrainian children they find on the street? What do they gain from that?

Ukrainian investigators in an area recaptured from Russian troops have uncovered a cell where children were detained and mistreated, a senior Ukrainian human rights advocate said on Wednesday.

Yes, because Ukrainian government officials have no reason to simply make things up.

Lubinets did not provide evidence of his assertions. Reuters was unable to immediately confirm the veracity of his account.

They literally say in the article that this is based on nothing.

“We have documented that the children were not provided with water, were given water every other day. They were practically not given food,”

Conflicting statements aside, they would’ve died in like 3 days.
