I agree with much of this–obviously I hate the West and Western fascism plenty–but to say that it all boils down to “mass hysteria about trans people” is a pretty off misdiagnosis.
I would wager most normal people either don’t care about trans people, feel mildly positive or mildly negative about it. That is certainly the case with the majority of normal people I talk to. Only fascists care THAT much. Granted, there are a lot of fascists here, their values are baked into society, but neoliberal Wokeism has also made particularly GSM issues well accepted by a large portion of society. I’m not saying that transphobia isn’t rampant or that people aren’t dying by said stochastic terrorism, only that it is not THE central issue. Trans issues are just a slice of the pie, and there are other issues that occupy bigger slices–IMO racism, war, militarized police state, pro-capitalist/anti-socialist propaganda, just to name a few, but even none of these are “THE” central issue.
I’m also confused by your last paragraph. I see that DankZedong brought it up and you relate it to PatSocs–sure, I can see how PatSocs by and large act about trans issues, I don’t disagree with that. But I don’t see how Western leftists “always lumping social progressivism into the democratic party platform” is related to this. I do not mean to speak for comrade DoubleK, but I know they’ve railed against patsocs and their ilk in the past. I think they are talking about figures like Maupin, Haz, Jimmy Dore, and that new fucker with a million subscribers, whatever his name is. The Tucker Carlsons of the “left”. DoubleK has a good point about them dominating narratives, too, as no-name up-and-comers can generate hundreds of thousands of views and followers by coupling “Russia good! Trans bad! China good! Gay bad!” sorta nonsense. It’s more than a little worrying, and the state of the western esp. Amerikan anti-imperialist “left” is sorry as hell.

It’s scary and infuriating for us living here comrade, but I try to remember that in the actual socialist world, the fight for LGBT rights and acceptance is progressing faster than it ever has anywhere else, and those movements are only gaining more traction. The anti-imperialist “left” thinks it’s gaining clout with an Orientalized view of the Other, thinks it’s making friends with the real socialist world (which is allegedly principally homophobic and transphobic), but they’re not. They’ll be left behind to the dustbin of history just like every pseudo-socialist pseudo-fascist movement has been.
It’s not super comforting for us as revolutionaries in the nation they thrive in, I know. It is a silver lining, I think, still. Remember that the actual communist movement is alive and thriving, remember that the revolutionary LGBT movement is doing the same in conjuction with the communist movement. We may feel alone nationally, but the socialist world is on our side.

Adding to @SovereignState@lemmygrad.ml and the positive narative they gave, much of the reactionary sentiment in places like Russia and elsewhere is fueled by western interference led by Christian fascists that have spent incredible amounts of time, money, and resources to “save” the world from queer people by sponsoring legislation and spreading propaganda. This has only increased since gay marriage was confirmed as legal by the courts in the US and Christian fascists were emboldened to expand their enterprise abroad.
The west can not be blamed for everything but as it diminishes I believe queer people will stand taller than they have since before euro colonialism.

That would make more sense. I though he was talking about Western leftists in general and I couldn’t rhyme his statement with, for example, our party’s vision on LGBTQ+ rights, especially considering the amount of LGBTQ+ people participating in our party.

I didn’t witness it directly. My partner explained it to me months ago so I will try to recall.
It was said that there were some redflags that some people (especially trans people) caught early on but others were caught up in the details and though they were not technically transphobic.
Eventually it became obvious to a larger portion of people during conversations around abortion. They began to aggressively assert that talking about “people who give birth” instead of women is a kind of anti feminist, anti woman, kind of speech. They basically died on that hill and vindicated the people that initially were skeptical.
Part of the narrative is Brigid went from right wing to communist in a relatively short period of time and seemed to still have reactionary vestiges that, when addressed by trans folks, exploded.
I think in some ways it is a story about rampant transphobia and how quickly it can bloom. It’s also a story about how we regularly fail to listen when trans people notice red flags.
That being said I don’t use social media outside of here and reddit and only know an indirect version of the story.
