Imagine if china won the world cup. How would everyone in western social media especially sinophobic anti-chinese people react… would the cope and tears be so high like the beijing olympics ?

China is unusually bad at football. They have more people than anyone else and are generally good at sports, they should win the world cup more often than anyone else. Anyway, people would just blame it on inhuman robot doping slave labour training conditions and not have to accept defeat. It’s like the film Rocky 4. The soviets actually want the USA to win, and their own guy is cheating by virtue of training too hard.

Now what I’d enjoy personally is seeing the DPRK women’s team win.

Honestly… I wouldn’t be surprised if some insane sportsball nuts went on a spree of attacking any and every oriental person they saw in their home country. These psychopaths start riots when they loose. It’s insane to me that people care so much about which team sported the ball better than the other team.

immediately they’d be accused of cheating with zero evidence and we’d go through all the ways soccer players can cheat and we’d find which ones they can’t absolutely prove they didn’t do without a shadow of doubt and accuse them of that, then wait for circumstantial evidence to appear and then go ha! see this is undeniable proof we were right all along and then everyone in the west would just remember it as the time china cheated at the world cup and people would be constantly arguing about what it should say in wikipedia

It would be a horrific upset to the world order, and China would quickly find itself receiving the Russia treatment with the Chinese flag, anthem, slogans, and athletes banned from international competitions.

the CSL is in the gutter right now, financially ruined after spending ludicrous amounts of money on guys like Oscar, Tevez, Bakambu, Hamsik etc to try raise the profile of the league and still nobody watches. People underestimate how hard it is to break European and South American dominance of this sport - it’s going to be 20 years before people even begin to take the MLS in the US seriously regardless of it’s quality.

Qatar had a goal of recruiting overseas players and investing huge amounts into their football program (it was effectively country over club for like 5 years for guys like Afif) and even then they got utterly embarrassed by Ecuador a couple days ago.

The closest we ever got to an Asian socialist country winning the WC was North Korea 1966 when they choked a huge lead in the QF against Eusebio’s Portugal. The coach never taught his team how to defend and after going 2 or 3 up, they didn’t defend and just kept attacking, eventually losing 5-3 because Eusebio is one of the greatest players ever and figured them out lol

One day the Chinese football team will be good I think. I went once to a Guangzhou Evergrande (i think the club is not owned by Evergrande anymore, not sure what its called now) match and it was a great time, there is an impressive and growing culture of football fans in the country. There were always a good number of people at the pub when I would go to watch Premier League as well. I’m not too familiar with the details but it is my understanding that the Chinese Super League was restructured to promote growth of domestic players and stop the spending of millions of euros on foreign names, which is good.

As for the seething that would occur, I feel that is the case for almost any non-western country in football. Westerner’s will continue living in their corporate media driven fantasy world as long as possible, but material reality won’t care about that. Hopefully China hosts a World Cup soon, I would definitely try to visit for that.

They are a few years behind getting a fecent football team, it is not impossible but they simply do not invest as much money as other countries in it.
