Top Ukrainian security officials are refuting U.S. estimates of how many Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or injured in the war. Last week, the U.S. chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, said around 100,000 Ukrainian troops have been killed or injured.

Ukrainian officials are now saying that figure is “not entirely true.”

Oleksiy Danilov, Ukraine’s secretary of National Security and Defense Council, said the casualty figures are “definitely not those.”

Holy shit it hasn’t even been a year long conflict and there are already estimates this high coming from the west? This has been a very bloody war just with these numbers alone. It’s fucked up that the west is so firmly against peace despite knowing the toll Ukraine must pay.

the west is so firmly against peace despite knowing the toll Ukraine must pay.

That’s exactly why they’re against the peace deal. They’re not the ones footing the bill

  • I won’t feel bad about dead Nazis, but most of these people are probably just misguided (politically unaware, believing that the invasion was unprovoked) and/or forced to fight. This could have been over in a few days (or long before it started) if NATO didn’t prevent and sabotage negotiations

Definitely appreciating how many are likely forced to fight after reading a recent article someone posted here and digging into the Ukronazi blocking units. Makes the whole situation even sadder than it already was. These blocking units if killed would greatly slow recruitment, unfortunately there are many and they are well-armed from what I gather; the fascists are reserving the best they’ve got to essentially enslave their own populace to be sent as battle thralls.

Remember that this is only looking at KIA and critically wounded service members. True rates of wounded, captured, or sick soldiers usually go at a ratio that is 2 to 6 times higher then the KIA rate.

Ukraine will cripple their country for decades to come as they send their entire current male population to become disabled in a useless meat grinder.

And then they’ll blame Russia for it

This is already going into the genocide narrative.

Also a noticeable amount of the population emigrated thanks to the war, it’s going to turn into a temporary wasteland.

Great for selling the country out. Wall Street is already creaming itself.

So The West and Ukraine probably know exactly how many soldiers have died already. The things is, what will they do when the number of soldiers left gets too low for them to realistically turn the tide? I can’t see the West admitting defeat in any way in this conflict.

They’ll just go “well Russia didn’t take Kiev in 72 hours so they’re weak”

        They’ve already been doing that

They’d either admit defeat or just send their own troops over

At this point, it’s a pretty safe bet that NATO troops are engaging Russian troops on the ground.

They were never going to turn the tide. The war will continue until NATO gets involved, a treaty is signed or Putin is satisfied.

When they say not true they mean twice that number. So #technicallythetruth to deny it.

I get why the fog of war is there, but its frustrating to not have good info on how things are going.

Just remember as a rule of thumb, if Ukraine says something, its probably bullshit.

My rule of thumb is that everything they say about Russia is projection and actually applies to Ukraine and/or the West.

Even if, as a centrist skeptic I saw said, we “triangulate” the truth by meeting somewhere in between the two narratives, and then extrapolate from there knowing how much the West and capitalists/fascists in general lie…yeah we basically arrive at the same conclusions.

The genocide comes to mind. A Donbas resident could literally get on TV and say exactly what’s happening and they’d get called a liar or a Russian plant.

Well they’ve got as much and more to throw into the cauldron. Not counting foreign “volunteers”. Polish soldiers, British soldiers, all those Colombians and yanks.

There were reports about several Colombia citizens traveling to Ukraine and volunteering for the “foreign battalions”

The Ukrainians seriously expect us to believe that they’ve taken next to no casualities from all this? Do they think we’re stupid?
