A brief explanation: while this is how we salute the flag (had to do that during conscription), however, it’s done when swearing to the flag, not when singing the national anthem as far as I know.
So, basically, they can claim innocence while knowing what they’re really doing.
In Brazil you Nazi salute the flag as a requirement when swearing allegiance? 😶😬
I suppose it is because of the roman thing, but yeah. I remember my mother even had a picture of the folks during conscription (me included) doing that while making the pledge.
