I’m still unsure if it’s worth sharing this just because of how generic it is, but since it has too many views (1.3 million) I’ll still say it:

This is a terrible video. The basis is reading off and slightly expanding upon these (oversimplified) definitions that he got from a mainstream dictionary, rather than trying to understand them from a scientific socialist’s point of view—the Marxist Internet Archive would be an adequate start.

He says that socialism has ‘never been fully practiced’, and that we’ve never ‘had that’ according to his definition, ‘not since farming became a thing, at least’. As if that weren’t amateurish enough, he says that ‘we’ve seen communism tried, but it failed miserably. It needed totalitarianism, and I don’t think Marx would have been a fan of the Soviet Union or China, because he wanted a stateless society.

It’s not even that I disagree with the assertion that nobody has yet to achieve socialism and communism; it’s just that the assertion is so pedantic and uninteresting that it may as well go unsaid (plus, anticommies usually bypass this with their lazy ‘IN THEORY BUT NOT IN PRACTICE!!!’ prestidigitation anyway).

A more engaging topic would have been what socialist movements have achieved and investigate why they frequently resorted to ‘authoritarian’ measures—two questions that are more related than you may think—but these centrist dorks won’t deliver that until February 30th. Well, okay, maybe they can do it a little sooner than that, but only through as much idealist wankery as possible. That means 0% materialism. Sound like a crappy deal? That’s because it is.

There’s more wrong with it (like the implication that Karl Marx coined the terms socialism and communism—he didn’t), but the point is that it’s an awful video with a condescending premise and a cringeworthy delivery.

For example, often people seamlessly interchange communism and totalitarianism, or capitalism and fascism

Ok for “totalitarianism” but where the f did he see people saying fascism and capitalism are interchangeable?? Fascism is capitalism in decay not because they are linked it means it’s the same thing ffs

Also big lel at “Marx wanted classless therefore no soviet union” showing that he, indeed, did not read Marx and Engels

my gf and I have started hate-watching Mr. Beat. His videos on US presidents are somewhat good, everything else is liberal bullshit.
