I finished reading “Foundations of Leninism” recently, it was really interesting, especially towards the end.

The foundations of Leninism is a really easy read, very clear and gets to the heart of things. Even for someone who doesn’t like Stalin for any reason, its a good read.

I came here to suggest foundations, but Dess and FC already did. Essentially, Stalin summarizes Lenin’s important works into one book, changes very little, and makes Leninism easier to understand. I read it before reading Lenin, and IMO it helped me bridge gaps between actions and positions of the USSR with the positions of Marxism-Leninism under Lenin and Stalin.

“Dialectical and Historical Materialism” is an important one - it’s very short, but it’s a bit hairy if you’re not familiar with these materialist philosophies. You don’t need to go all Lenin hitting the books, but try to get a sense of the ideas first. Happy reading!
