The new Code would legalize same-sex marriage, allow same-sex couples to adopt children, promote equal sharing of domestic responsibilities and extend labor rights (including pay) for those who care full-time for children, the elderly and people with disabilities. It would further confirm the right to free abortion, paid family leave and assisted and surrogate pregnancies (but not for profit), and it would fight gender-based violence and expand the rights of children and grandparents.

Meanwhile in America… cops kill black people and hate women. But that’s the price of freedom…?

Fun Fact: Cuba has the 2nd highest percentage of female congress members at around 53%. Only behind Rwanda who has 61% (wow). To play devil’s advocate, Cuba’s number is the most indicative of accurate representation, with Cuba having 5.7 million women and 5.6 million men(unfortunately I couldn’t find NB information, that number is likely to rise after this legislation… yay)

I need the 25th to come asap! The wait for the results is hard as until it happens, it isn’t a given and there is plenty of chances for it to fail. Given that the masses have had the chance to contribute things seem very very good of course. The real celebration will be after and will be a HUGE milestone, and will be truly something to show the liberals of the world how different words and deeds are! But we can’t forget how low the CIA and other external forces will go in order to destabilize Cuba (and all other AES nations) with election tampering.

The first Marxist Leninist nation to fully codify LGBTQ rights into their constitution! This is a huge milestone.

This is really, really exciting. Also nerve-wracking as hell. The first ML country to do this will be forever remembered as the trendsetter for firm adherence to truly scientific socialist principles regarding LGBT+ rights. On the international stage, this may further pave the way for their comrades in China/Vietnam/DPRK/Laos to continue their march forward and help many understand that “LGBT rights” are not a western-imperialist psyop, or that they don’t have to be. I’m very nervous because of religious and particularly Catholic influence that has held a grip on restraining this movement for a long while, but I have faith in the Cuban people and the communist party ✊️

The other issues outlined are also of vast importance. Women are the revolution and revolution is a nation’s women, the elderly and disabled deserve immense respect and care… a wonderful, shattering revolt against neoliberal anti-people hegemony is underway and I’m immensely proud of the Cuban masses for being at the forefront of it.

Between February and April, nearly 6.5 million Cubans took part in more than 79,000 meetings facilitated by the Federation of Cuban Women, the Committees to Defend the Revolution (CDRs) and other community organizations to offer proposals and amendments to the proposed Code. Over 400,000 proposals were offered by the people, which were submitted to the National Assembly of People’s Power for evaluation and then returned to the people again for further discussion and proposals.

The proposed Code to be voted on this month represents the 25th draft and was unanimously approved by the National Assembly, after evaluating the thousands of proposals submitted.

I never want to hear that “Cuba is not democratic/is authoritarian” ever again.

Probably one of the most based things the Cubans has ever done, like this is some good shit tbh. Hope their fellow AES scountries do the same.
