Just wanted to share so you have an idea what we go through sometimes lol.
120 requests so far and probably more incoming. All made by the same person, spamming a nonsensical message full of slurs.
Due to accounts being on request, I’m not sure what the end game is here except be a nuisance. Nobody except the admins will ever see the requests and it got old after the first one.
I turned off account registration for now, you’ll have to wait if you want to request an account sorry uwu

It is now fixed thanks to our engineer’s work. It was an attempt at a DDOS attack like we’d seen earlier this year, but did not work at all because our DDOS software caught it, and since they were stuck in account requests with their spam, you never saw any of their stuff lol. Big L.
any reqs for DDOS software?
This one is deployed by our host so I don’t really know lol sorry
We are fixing the issue now (Muad’Dibber is, not me). You can make accounts again but there’s no point as they will be purged, so just wait a bit more if you see this somehow.

Oh great, did we get linked on a popular reddit post again?
I would not be suprised if this is from lemmy or beehaw TBH
I’m not sure what Lemmygrad/the Lemmy software tracks but it’s possible we could find out who is doing this once we look into the files. Can’t promise anything though.
glad i registered a month before registrations got turned off
We’ll turn them back on soon, just need to have someone who can work on the files do something for it haha
Is there a way to block all requests from an IP? Or potentially set up a bot that just auto deletes requests with certains words or phrases in it?
Probably, but not from the front end. Someone would have to go in the files to do that. Fortunately, we have developers on the team but it seems I’m the only one online right now lol
Unless it’s just a single IP address sending these, IP blocks don’t work too well unless you pull a Cloudflare and mess with Tor users. The word filter could be a good idea, though
