I love NewPipe, and it works great 95% of the time. Occasionally YouTube updates something, and NewPipe breaks for a few days. To be fair, part of that lag is related to fdroid delays publishing updates. On a related note, SmartTubeNext is an amazing app for use on android-based smart-tv type devices.

There’s also app for desktop PC called freetube. It’s similar to Newpipe, it lets you keep your subscription list offline without any account and if I recall correctly you can set it to use invidious instance as source. Unlike newpipe it doesn’t support peertube.

Yeah, I have that installed, but I rarely find myself using it. I’m not sure why, but it just seems easier for me to use Firefox with ublock when I’m on my PC.

Invidious displays the comments below the video. So, if for some reason you want to read the comment section, you’re not missing out.

Personally I will just watch some videos on YouTube from time to time to let the service and the creators stay afloat, most of the time I just use NewPipe. I will use ads time to get something to eat before the video starts.

I can understand feeling sympathy towards the content creators but the service ehh? I would be glad if my favorite creators would ditch addtube.

same. I wonder why almost none of them have a different way to access the videos… Do a torrent, do your own peertube, your own website or whatever, it’s not that hard!!

I was a bit unclear, but I meant that they get enough money not to care about us who use clients such as NewPipe so they don’t block us completely due to lack of income, never underestimate Google’s power.

Fair point. Selfish as it may be, it’s in our advantage for these tools to be unpopular.

Exactly that! Every day I thank the people who do their best to stay up to the changes YouTube makes to break NewPipe and other clients and hope YouTube doesn’t go further to use DRM or something worse… I still hope for a way to monetize PeerTube so other creators would switch, Odysee seems to be getting traction but I am not informed enough to know if it’s a better alternative to YouTube, I hope it is.

just want to say, I personally prefer newpipe but since it doesn’t have some features, some people don’t want to switch, so… youtube vanced still works, and revanced is still in development but it also works :)

Screw that! Months ago I realized just how much I watch YouTube and how much of my time was wasted watching ads.

I bought a cheap tiny computer to use as a settop box. It hooks rght into my TV. Firefox + Ublock Orign and now i am watching YouTube ad free.

Since, I have set up Jellyfin on the same pc and have my hard drive full of movies streaming to all TVs in the house with a netflix like interface.

Seriously. Getting A small PC as a dedicated set-top box Is the best decision I have made in a long time.
