In case you had any doubt that the GOPigs aren’t disgusting.

Much as I hate the Democrats, the GOP seem to be courting more and more people that are outright fascist or Christian dominionists.

While many conservatives seem to have gone to the Democrats from the center-right, that otherwise leaves the GOP to court voters or other allies that are of an even higher degree in racist and classist thinking as well as religious fundamentalist thinking.

That last part refers to the evangelical movement in particular, which is banking hard on these types in the Republican Party.

I live in a red state and things can change or get more worse when a Republican, particularly a Trumpist, gets into the governorship or takes control of the state legislature or both.

Democrats can be bad, don’t get me wrong, but in my (unpopular) opinion: I do think that Republicans are indeed surpassing them in terms of the mind-set of their followers and the lengths they’re willing to go to enact their agenda.

I mean, Rick DeSantis and Glenn Youngkin seem to be going ahead in terms of whipping up a Red Scare 3.0 and seem to be the main push behind that current or trend.

A lot of it is the democrats’ fault. They’ve been utilizing the pied piper, lesser evilism strategy for so long and it’s been relatively successful for so long that they continue to actively fund their extremist opponents in GOP primaries in order to mobilize the left into supporting dems. Even after Trump won they haven’t learned, it’s utterly confounding. The left hates the dems more and more by the day and the right is being emboldened by the very message they’re funding. It won’t be long until extremist evangelicals run this nation state-to-state w/ this strategy.

It’s a good one. A lot of second thought content I hesitate to recommend because it’s more for baby socialists, but this one was incredibly informative even for well studied commies. Thanks for linking.

Maybe, maybe not. I feel like this takes a lot of the initiative out of the Republican media machine, which partly even affects currents of the political left in terms of their rhetoric.

I don’t focus on the Democrats in my last post because people already do that and talk about what they’re doing wrong, but the Republicans and their overall media strategy and everything they’ve done related to that largely didn’t need the Democrats and their fuck-ups either; they didn’t need the Democrats being poor strategists or politicians. They are that effective.

I don’t disagree. The Murdoch machine is huge for instance, and part of the reason democrats are beginning to lose more and more is due to voter suppression laws spearheaded by Republicans and ineffectively combated by dems. Redlining, gerrymandering, etc. There is a pertinent problem insofar as the pacs that fund Nancy Pelosi and co. are the same ones donating millions of dollars to the Repub propaganda machine as part of an insane strategy. The Republicans may be digging the grave, but the dems are handing them the shovel.

Trump has made the GOP realize that fear really is a great motivator for turnout and political participation. So they’re turning the fascism to 100 and trying to make every American afraid of literally everything from bathrooms, children’s hospitals, crime (black people), the deep state (Jews), everything. Fear is the primary motivator to the fascist mind. If you can make someone deathly afraid of their neighbors or anyone in their community you can then tell them to vote for yourself because you’re the only antidote. I mean, their entire platform is the culture war, that’s all they have, but it’s effective, it turns people into maniacs. Slapping the label “woke” on literally anything is enough for Republicans to be afraid of it and start shooting up public spaces over. It’s incredibly terrifying to look where this country is headed.

Yeah. I would argue that sensationalism and exaggeration play into that. Even the left sometimes does this with trying to get people to take action, though not to the same degree that the GOP and their media machine have done this, of course, which is truly obscene and horrid.

The left has little power in using fear because unlike racism, homophobia, and xenophobia, classism directed at the rich hasn’t really been a core part of American culture in its history. The GOP is able to cultivate and strengthen ingrained racist, xenophobic and homophobic attitudes many Americans have. That’s why I think trump, and many politicians like him became so popular. In the past thirty years, there has been a progressive push to rightfully shame and diminish racist etc. attitudes, but when trump came into office, and the movement against that push coalesced around him, he made people feel less shameful about those attitudes and to embrace them. That is the truly scary part about what’s changing.

It’s something you can clearly see a little bit in the OP. He knows that because of the shame culture around homophobia, he can’t outright say he’s a homophobe, but he knows that he is one, and wants to dog whistle that to other people like him. Eventually, they WILL go mask off, and when they’re comfortable enough to do that, I wonder what horrible place our country will be in.

Perhaps someone should brick his house and see how he likes it.

These people can’t be negotiated with. They will only understand force when push comes to shove.
