    A more accurate statement would be to say that US folded to Chinese pressure since they ultimately failed to force Wanzhou to admit any wrong doing. I think the deeper implication here is that China now has leverage over US and can force their hand. This is a clear sign of a shift in global power balance.

      I wonder what role canadas diplomats played here behind the scenes too. Its possible a few people in the canadian judicial system likely wanted no part of this, and were pushing back really hard on being a pawn in US corporate hostage taking.

        Yeah, I expect Canada would apply whatever political pressure it has as well. Although, traditionally US doesn’t really care what Canada thinks.
