You’ve probably noticed the increase in posts of upwards of 50 comments in the last few days. All the trolls are out on watch.

As long as you’re an anarchist who acknowledges that the Soviets were better than the US I can respect that perspective. I’ve met too many who just do “authority bad” without analysis on themselves as an alleged authority on authority.

I’ve met too many who also immediately go “I don’t think we’d ever achieve a [stateless classless society] with anarchism”, but it makes them feel better than supporting places like the USSR. It’s exhausting to deal with those types.

More users more trolls, that’s how it goes. I saw a few Lemmy recommendations for tech on various reddit subs, so that’s where the demographics are coming from.

Upside is unlike reddit more chances for instigation without eating 15 banhammer accounts. Then again, tech types tend to be exclusively petite-bourgeois (if not outright bourgeois), but who’s to say we can’t rustle up a few class traitors with enough effort?

I’m not sure that they are just trolls; many anticommunists consider themselves “leftists”, after all, so lemmy.ml might seem like an alternative to R*ddit. AFAICT these comments are coming from people in the imperial core who haven’t yet realized what their governments are supporting

Threads related to China and/or Russia have been heated for at least a few months now, in my experience

Those posts are on lemmy.ml. Our website is lemmygrad.ml. They are two different instances of Lemmy, the software that powers this site. The reason you can see the posts on lemmy.ml is because of something called federation which basically allows two instances of Lemmy to talk to each other. We cannot moderate content on lemmy.ml.

I like the federation and hope that lemmygrad.ml isn’t too trigger-happy with de-federating from instances. You only see lemmygrad.ml by default anyway (at least on the web browser and PWA), and have to change to the “all” view to see the federated content.

I saw a communist on Reddit ask “why the fuck are we still on Reddit if they’re thus hostile to us?!” The reply was that we need to make our ideology and resources known to noncommunists. If we retreat into echo chambers at the first sign if push back, we’ll never amass sufficient support for a revolution.

Pretty sure you can. Moderators and admins can remove posts from any federated instance from appearing on your instance, ban remote users from your instance, block remote communities, etc. There’s no difference in how it’s done between on instance and off instance material, you press the same buttons to moderate, only difference is that you don’t remove the original content, but you prevent it from being displayed on your instance.

Maybe it’s just a sign too that Lemmy is doing well. Dissent and trolling comes with that I guess.

Problem is, there is gazillion of posts with barely any comments, few with several comments and few, all of them political, filled to the brim with dozens of bootlicker comments. That is textbook brigading, and this one is additionally glowing brightly.

Yeah there isn’t, that’s one more signature of brigading, only selected threads are invaded. And in those threads you can notice it is literally few people making most of the posts, so, back to the post i was responding - i don’t think Lemmy is doing particularly good, if anything Lemmygrad seems more active (i can be wrong i’m not sure how the federating works, i do not even see any lemmy posts on lemmygrad, but i do see some people from lemmy).

Thanks for the link, i just never set it on “all”, after doing that it works exactly as described.

I would wonder if some of them are bots. I’ve also noticed recently that the iOS app seems to allow hitting submit a few times, resulting in the same post (sorry). Not the same issue but Im saying in terms of literally raw posts, my comments seem to hit twice sometimes xD

As I understand it, Lemmy still has moderators at least.

Yeah, we luckily we have more control over the user base. Purge if need be? But I haven’t noticed it being “a problem” yet.

I’ve noticed that as well. I find there is a handful of tropes that these people use, and you can just keep a few canned replies for each of them. I find the most effective approach is to have polite replies that provide lots of sources showing how their points are wrong. Typically they just slink away after that.

Yep, the main lemmy instance is evidence if more were needed that freedom of speech is a bad idea.

Freedom of speech is idealism, and has never existed! Of course you are still right, liberal speech should be censored.

Well, we know that, but it’s amazing how hard it is to make people understand that their speech has always been limited and always will be.

its what you get when you “free speech land” peoples brains, without those people ever questioning how easily they could lose it.

Well, yeah most of liberals’ arrogant stupidity is the result of intergenerational indoctrination. But even now, there is no such thing as truly free speech, it’s just a question of who decides the limits, and to what end?
