Hello everyone, I know that there is already a symbol to represent the fediverse (the small star that symbolizes the network) but as a graphic designer I wanted to try to make a proposal, it was a good exercise ^^ I hope the community likes it.

Out of curiosity, what’s the meaning of the flag as a symbol for the fediverse?

From the logo description provided by the linked website:

I tried to create a logo for the Fediverse which is a compound word (Federation and Universe) and a common territory to a federation of servers. The underlying idea is that the human being when he discovers a new virgin territory plants his flag. The flag is also used to symbolize membership in a group, here it is the federation.

Hello @riccardo@lemmy.ml , I wanted to explore another graphic track than the one of the network which was already used by the current symbol. The flag is generally used as a unifying symbol. Not only for countries but more generally, it can be cities, regions, groups of countries (EU) or groups of values (UN).

I like the iconography and the font (is Inter, right?). Looks clean and versatile too.

Just a FYI… we had a humongous fedi logo discussion early this year. See: https://mastodon.social/@humanetech/105485124372180453

I like the logo design, but getting it to be ‘the’ standard will be hard. The outcome of the other discussion was that most people wanted to stick with current pentagram design. Your design would be good as a ‘share to fediverse’ toolbar icon, as it does well on low resolution.

Hi @humanetech@lemmy.ml thanks for the link to the discussion, I’m interested in reading it.

For me it was a great exercise that I really enjoyed doing. I use a lot of fediverse applications daily and I wanted to contribute in my own way. Then I am unable to predict what the community will prefer use, I respect their decision in any case.
