We no longer have access to any solid data on this. But hospital admissions is a good data point with relative stability.

It really bothers me, that no one here in the West even gives a shit about masks anymore. It feels like I’m the only one wearing them, when I go out to the street. Funny thing is that I always see Chinese emigrants with masks.

My Chinese American friend and I are the only people I know besides my parents who still socially distance, wear masks, and avoid going out for anything except necessities. I literally get dirty looks for wearing a mask and have been treated poorly a lot because of it (I live in a rural red state so it is more open I think)

The West has made infection the mandatory cost of having a social life. The ruling class lives in a bubble (private planes at an all time high and they constantly test their house staff) meanwhile the CPC created that bubble for their entire population to enjoy.

Yeah, I don’t understand why Western governments decided to drop the mandatory mask usage, at least keep it for interiors like gas stations, stores, restaurants. They just stopped giving a shit.

  1. Revenue. Western governments are the puppets of the corporations. If you admit there is a problem people will actually educate themselves on it, and that will 100% have a negative impact on spending. Even just announcing that there is a new strain has a significant impact on quarterly earnings because people are less suicidal than the media portrays, they are actually just unaware of the reality regarding covid (for the msot part)

In March of 2020 the SPY (stock market index) fell by about 30% in a matter of weeks. Absolutely insane and unprecedented. and consumer spending was in freefall. We live in a system where infinite growth is required, so flat is bad and down is death. (insert is consumer spending chart) (edit: also, oil revenues - the lifeblood of the American empire - cratered because no one was driving or flying)

  1. Perception management wrt the role of the government. There is a deliberate attempt in Western countries (esp the US) to drive a wedge between the people and the government. So that the government can purely be a corporate tool and the average person sees the government as the enemy and private interests (corps) as their friends. To permit the government to enact restrictive measures that are actually beneficial for the people would undermine decades of work on that front. Furthermore, the lockdowns would have required that the government give even more money to people for necessities, further changing the average persons perspective on how money printed and given to people actually helps the economy and is not a purely bad thing. Early on people in my rural community were actually helping one another and had pretty good masking practices but the corporate media astroturfed so much antipathy.

  2. Eugenics

  3. healthcare revenue. Every case of long covid is a new customer for life.

I always wear my mask unless it’s a big open area or someplace with lots of light and airflow. Only place I’ve been without one so far is my local farmers market and I felt pretty uncomfortable still but I had ridden with someone and forgot it in my car. Honestly I like it just cause it dampens smells and I have come to realize a lot of people and places just… Stink. Lol. I use a cloth mask and cut a piece of merv 13 filter material to fit the inside so all my air is filtered. And I mean it’s the full shape of the mask not just an insert in the little pocket.

There are no words to describe what this government is doing to vulnerable people.

I know what words I would use: social murder.

That term + watching the pandemic is actually what helped me get my father to actually read Marx and Lenin.

Seeing one or two people in my liberal doctor twitter sphere becoming slowly more radical has been delightful (I’ve been helping them along ofc). A year ago this one doc I follow was total liberal and now he is saying ableism=fascism (which it is) and the deliberate mismanagement of the pandemic is social murder.

Ha. I saw a doctor unironically wearing a Che shirt during the first big wave. It is encouraging to hear that the professional folks we rely on are becoming radicalized.

I’m in the UK. Even hospitals are not taking covid seriously. Many abandoned the mask policy, that’s right hospitals where all the sick people are decided masks were not necessary. Some are reinstating them but the messaging is so confused.

We were at the hospital yesterday with my son and had to ask the doctor to put a mask on. He did so and didn’t complain but I’m sure we shouldn’t have to ask.

My aunt died BECAUSE of COVID but not FROM COVID. She had cancer and it was in remission. She was doing very well. She also had been vaccinated against COVID. She still got COVID despite this but the vaccine helped her kick it’s ass in a few days. BUT COVID did some fucky shit with her immune system and/or the cancer before it left. Cancer got out of control and she was gonna a month later.

The ONLY way for her to have not died was to simply not be exposed to it. So all these anti lockdown, anti-vax people really piss me off. I basically ended a friendship with someone because they were antivax and the dipshits got COVID twice now. I have a LOT of mistrust if the US healthcare and pharma industry, from being prescribed meds I didn’t need that I got addicted to and had and still have issues from, and I still got the vaccines. I also work for a pharma company that manufactures one of them. They could be safer. They SHOULD be safer, but as it stands you’re still far safer getting them then getting COVID 100%. The biggest concern is your genetics with your bodies ability to process Ethylmercury which is used as a preservative in a lot of adult focused vaccines. It’s a pretty small portion of the populace and isn’t super well known but it’s still an issue people should be aware of but aren’t. What’s dumb is we can totally make these things without it but it’s a little more difficult and more costly. As far as the mRNA scare is it’s all BS. We’ve been studying these kinds of vacs for a while now it’s just this gave us the opportunity to start using it en mass.

  1. I am very sorry for your loss

  2. I am in a similar boat as you. I have broken off friendships, built a home gym as best as I can and overall am insulating myself. This is a mass disabling event and the capitalist class is trying to wear everyone down into just giving in to their homicidal “plan”. This is going to have a tsunami like effect on the labor market, productivity, reproduction, and healthcare for generations. They are finding evidence that Covid may be making men sterile.

  3. Very enlightening concerning Ethylmercury - I have said the exact same thing as you (there are problems with the vaxx but you are better off taking that genetic gamble than taking a gamble on covid) and it actually got through to some people. The lack of nuance in the discussion around covid is fertile ground for creating anti-vaxxers. The entire approach of the US to covid has been “Let’s do the thing that makes money for corporate america (vaccinations) and not do the things that don’t even though those are way more effective. Simple as!”

Last bit of #3: Oh yeah, it’s caused a lot of problems with our company because all these clients got used to being able to skirt regulation and production timing with their COVID projects and got super removed when we told them “no” for their other projects they want to run through us the same way. Like sorry, we could expedite this shit for COVID because the govt basically ordered it, we can’t do that for everything. It’s caused a lot of issues and so many deviations that some of those companies are using the deviations as an excuse to not pay us for all the COVID products we made for them. There’s is no end to the sleezyness of these fucking Pharma companies. Our facility is just a contract manufacturer. We don’t own or do any of the development of them meds other than figuring out how to make them en mass for clients. Not that our company is innocent. The upper management is basically brain dead and their entire business strategy feels like some corporate sabotage because that’s more believable than “there’s fuckers really are this incompetent.” lol. If the job market wasn’t so trash I would have changed professions years ago and gotten out of pharma all together. It just fucking sucks working for these demons.

Upper management and brain dead decisions name a more iconic duo.

Very interesting anecdote though comrade, thanks for sharing. Very reminiscent of the experiences of my friend who works for electrical utilities. His management makes decisions that I am actually convinced are intentional incompetence to avoid having a paper trail of how much they skirt regulations. Like underfunding their compliance department.

They blamed Covid on asians, and it resulted in an ongoing, noticeable uptick in anti-asian hate crimes. This is gonna be even worse because it is physically visible. I am bracing myself for the inevitable accusations that the gay school teacher touched some guys kids inappropriately and the dad attacks the teacher because we are going to take 0 precautions to prevent monkeypox transmission.

Targets of hate keep on accumulating…

  • Westoids think they can hate Asians because of COVID
  • Westoids think they can hate LGBTQTIA+ because Monkey Pox
  • Westoids think they can hate Asians more because of increasing war cries against China
  • Westoids think they can hate Eastern Europeans because of the Ukraine thing
  • Westoids think they can hate Communists again because of increasing war cries against China

Stay safe comrades…

Hating Africans and black people because…well that’s just normal.

And Latinos are still “illegal foreigners” to a lot of people, even if they’ve been here for generations.

I just saw the best tweet - someone asked “what do reactionaries like about america? seems like they hate everything - the culture, the politics, the…” and someone just responded “unironically they just like white people”.

It’s fucking true. I have been thinking the exact same thing. American “patriotism” on the right in the age of facebook and trump is literally just white supremacy.

All patriotism in the US is white supremacy. The entire nation and every aspect of it was founded on principles of white supremacy.

The “founding fathers” were rich white property and slave owning Christian men who didn’t want to pay taxes. The thirteen colonies were stolen and the indigenous all but eradicated. The fifty states is all more stolen land from people who were all but eradicated. The thirteen stripes and the fifty stars on their beloved flag all represent this.

None of the founding documents include any language which elevates any minorities to equals save the “women can vote” amendment. All the 13th did was change the name of forced labor for minorities from “slavery” to “imprisonment”. And since a huge portion of prisoners can’t vote the amendment allowing the black vote is toothless.

Also you still need to have an address to vote, so while you don’t necessarily need to be a “property owner” anymore, the homeless are still being fucked over.

So yeah, this country needs a hard reset button. The founding fathers need to be remembered not as heroes but as criminals, the flag completely replaced to something completely different, not a single fucking drop of resemblance, the borders redrawn for indigenous liberation (ie “land back”), all present colonial territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, etc) the option of independence, all documents put to history and remade for the modern communist era, the name of the country and each remaining state changed (it represents a minority portion of the Americas and we have no right to monopolize the name for an entire two continents, and many state names appropriate names from the indigenous, the very people we massacred), all branches of the military disbanded and replaced with a Peoples’ Army, Navy, etc., all branches of government disbanded and restructured to fit a government for the working class and not some elites, etc etc the list goes on.

I agree 100% (speaking of hard reset this essay on “mexicanism” is excellent), but there used to be a veneer of “we love this country because it’s been good to us” and that veneer is now completely gone and the fascists are openly racist.

This pandemic taught pharma a dangerous lesson. If you offer USians a free preventative, they’ll fight it their last breath. But if you wait until they are sick and offer a $100,000 cure, they’ll eat it up and call you a genius.
