calling the USSR an “empire” is suspect to begin with. This is a decent article, but it’s definitely not a communist source.
You are right, it is not a communist source, but it is from Iran, a neighbor of Afghanistan. Clearly they have a different perspective, but I dont think we shouldnt dismiss it just because of that. If we only consider sources that agree with our perspective or our ideology, we will easily get stuck in an information bubble, and ignore reality.
I realize in post that the way I said “not a communist source” wasn’t meant to be a ‘i only trust communist sources’, was just pointing that out. (probably didn’t need to be pointed out, tho.)
Tbh my comment also goes to @T34@lemmygrad.ml.
Nearly 100,000 Soviet soldiers were deployed across major cities and highways in Afghanistan. The invading forces ruthlessly crushed the rebellion mounted by mujahideen and their supporters.
TIL rescuing Eastern Europe from Nazis and protecting socialist Afghanistan from theocrats is imperialism.
This source is questionable, to say the least.
