From the site:

Alright you redeemers, rebels and radicals out there,

Take Two.

Ten years after Occupy Wall Street one thing has become painfully clear: the people in charge of our global system have run it aground.

Ecosystems are crashing, financial markets teetering, climate wars breaking out. Suddenly humanity is in a Code-Red Emergency and our world leaders haven’t got a clue about how to get us out of it.

It’s time for another global uprising — OWS 2.0.

But this one will be a little different. Instead of marching in the streets and commandeering parks, we’re calling for a Worldwide General Strike — A Day of Rage Against World Leaders.

On September 17th, everything simply … stops.

Since there are some skeptical voices here, let me explain a bit why I think this is a good idea.

This week for example there was a nation-wide survey in Germany for their upcoming federal election where they asked if “climate related questions affecting the younger generations” are a factor for their upcoming election decisions. Pretty broad question, but I think people understood the intent correctly.

Yet a staggering 58% of the people above 65 years old answered “not at all” and the slightly younger generations were not much better. And given the age demographics in much of the western countries, these are the group of people deciding who become our leaders (and most of the leaders are from that age-group as well).

I know this sounds like some anti-boomer rhetoric, but it is us the Millenials and the GenZ that need to show these people who really runs this society (aka the workers) and this general strike is a first step.

I don’t really know if this is a good thing, I get that the elite are taking the absolute piss with the power hunger they’ve shown over the past few years. But is this really the best way to go about it?

People are in need of the services of others, i.e supermarkets need food in stock otherwise we go hungry

One day strike is not going to make people starve to death, the important point is to show that enough people care about the issue at hand.

Obviously nurses working in intensive care units and other such jobs will be able to make their own judgment calls if they work or not.

Yeah I get that, I think people do care which is why there are so many worldwide protests about covid lockdowns and so. But do you notice how you hardly ever hear about the protests from mainsteam news outlets, you always hear it from other sources

I kind of need more than a poster to feel incentivized to join a strike that is supposed to involve a billion people.

Why? If you agree with the idea all you need to do is stay at home on that day and not do anything basically.

Im not the one that should defend this. Why do you believe that a billion people will join the strike?

That is just their marketing slogan. The important point is: do you or do you not think it is a worthy cause to support (no need to answer that)?

Is there a translated version? It seems a bit ridiculous to call for a Worldwide strike in english only…

I’m not inherently against this or anything, but the page gives me strong “hey, fellow kids” vibe.

There’s also the part about “kids” not going to school, and, in contrast, “parents” not going to work. Subttly implying workers are parents and vice-versa.

I doubt anything major will come out of this. Reminds me of those “everyone should skip school on X day” texts we used to send around.

If I don’t go to work, then I’m not helping build climate saving technologies. I’ll bow out on this idea. In my country, we voted for our leaders. We have what we picked. Are we going on strike against ourselves? Why not become a leader instead of becoming a discontent follower?

Well, why don’t you just work on climate solutions at home, and give away your findings for free? Surely it’s better in the hands of humanity rather than someone who’ll only save the environment if it’s profitable?
