    I recently read “Red Star over China” by Edgar Snow which is fantastic. He was an American Journalist (don’t laugh) who went to Communist China in 1936 and was the first Westerner to meet Mao. It’s really well written and provides a lot of information about they key people behind the Revolution (you get to learn about Mao’s personal quirks). I know that’s not what you asked for, but you really should read it!

    It’s find it so hard to find quality sources when it comes to that period of China :(. I was looking for stuff about the landlords and their organuzed use of violence against peasants, but alas, to no avail.

      As in my comment above, I have to recommend Red Star Over China, there are first hand reports of people talking about the horrors of KMT-Nationalist rule, and also a good chunk on the landlords.
