I wonder why are the whole world stuck with two proprietary OS from USA? Where is the competition? If there are many competitors instead of duopoly that avoid competition with differentiated goods to restrict competition to a small percentage of customers from a very narrow demographic group, then they cannot collude with all the competitors and competition will exist. They did stop new competitors from China with the government intervention of Capitalist plutocratic command economy, but they still need method for market competition to lied that innovation in software still exist from market competition. Now, the innovation occurs through other means other than market competition.

Google has been thinking pretty long term with android, letting anyone license it pretty easily, and making the source code open with AOSP. Even the huawei and xiaomi phones just use android forks. So competitors don’t have a reason to use anything else, or build something from scratch.

Android is hot garbage (typing from android with pain) I will switch to Linux phone once I find the right one.

    • Their operating system(s) are based on Android. AFAICT the later versions don’t include the proprietary Google software, so you can’t use the Google Play Store (good, IMO) and some Android apps won’t run (not quite as good)

I had the first model of iphone (2G), jailbroken so I could use it on my carrier. What made me hate them with a passion, was when an update broke bluetooth. I asked apple support, and they told me that bluetooth wasn’t supported by my hardware, which was bs because I had it working a day before that.
