Do they let you fire a gun in Algeria? Over here I don’t think so but they let you clear grass between tiles to at least be comfortable with the feeling of stabbing someone.

I might do my 1 year in Army early, thought about it and the pros (I shoot cool guns) outweighed the cons
In the past members of our party happily joined the army to do combat training that would be useful in case of revolution. You might learn something.
