This is a great example of western propaganda completely brainwashing people. Like, i myself, when i first heard of the Winter War, i thought the soviets actually lost that war! From how people talk about it and make memes online, it really seems that way. Even Wikipedia tries to give that impression, by just saying “Result: Moscow Peace Treaty” instead of “Result: Soviet victory, Moscow Peace Treaty”, as they do with other wars. But if you read further down, they admit that USSR won, since they gained much more finnish territory than they were asking Finland for before the war. Yet most westerners dont know this! They think Finland won!
Its even more insane when westerners (including finns) say that “USSR was terrible towards Finland, they oppressed Finland!” Its literally the opposite! Finland helped the nazis invade the USSR and kill 27 million soviets. After the war ended and Finland had unconditionally surrendered, the soviets would have been well in their right to annex all of Finland into the USSR and end its existence as a nation state, considering what the finns had done to the soviet people. And yet they didnt! Not only did they allow Finland to continue existing as a state, they also allowed it to stay capitalist and didnt impose socialism on Finland. The only things they demanded is that the nazi finn war criminals be prosecuted, that the fascism which had ruled the country since 1918 be abolished and communist parties legalized, and that Finland remain neutral. In what world is that a bad deal? The soviets were extremely generous to Finland, and yet most people nowadays have no idea of any of this. Its such a shame.

I mean, i think they will try, but if Russia manages to conquer all or most of Ukraine, including Kiev, it will be hard to spin it that way. If they just get Donbass, South Ukraine (all the way from Transnistria to Donetsk, including Odessa and Nikolaev) and maybe Kharkov, then yes, theyll 100% spin it that Russia lost, that they wanted to capture Kiev in 1 week and failed completely, as they are already saying now.
Btw, the thing with Finland, is even worse when we take into account modern post soviet Russia. To say that Russia has “oppressed Finland”, like they say now that they are joining NATO, is absolutely insane. While USSR was very nice and generous to Finland, it is true that they had significant control over it, to avoid it turning prowest/antisoviet (although they had very good reasons for it imo, like Finland had just supported the nazis), so there is maybe there a very slim argument to be made that “USSR oppressed Finland”. But post soviet Russia? Literally nonsense! Russia literally modified the peace treaty between Finland and USSR to allow Finland to join the European Union (which is literally an antirussian economic bloc) and have military partnerships with NATO (literally an antirussian military alliance). How is that “oppressing Finland”? And even now, that Finland openly promotes russophobia and is joining NATO, which literally breaks the aforementioned peace treaty between Finland and USSR/Russia (a treaty that Russia is still respecting to the t mind you), Russia is still being extremely generous to Finland, by saying “ok, you can join NATO, we will allow it, we wont respond, just dont allow any NATO military troops/infrastructure to be stationed in Finland ok?”.
Like how can you get more generous and conciliatory? They are literally allowing Finland to do anything it wants except to put hostile military equipment on their territory. The western delusion is so insane. Whats worse, most finns dont understand what joining NATO means (and their propaganda media doesnt help). They think theyll be safe by joining NATO, the delusion is just incredible. In what world do you avoid a war happening in your country by picking sides in a possible nuclear world war? Finns have a high living standard, with their extensive social democracy and their leeching off the global south. They have no idea what a war is like, much less a nuclear war! If Finland joins NATO and WW3 erupts between NATO and allies and Russia, China and allies, Finland will be wiped off the map, it will be the first target russian nukes will go for after maybe Washington DC. I dont think most finns understand this. No country has ever left NATO willingly (except Greece but thats a totally different story), despite what liberals may say about “countries choosing to join NATO”. There is no going back to this, once Finland is a full NATO member, its over, there will be no escaping the nuclear holocaust if WW3 breaks out.

Soviet forces from Kalmykia wore the swastika, since they were Buddhist, and this was before it got appropriated by Nazism. After the war they dropped the symbol because of the association with the Nazis.
