Have been listening to audiobooks during my bouts of menial labour and have kind of run dry on things to listen to that aren’t orthodox Marxism-Leninism. And while I did make a study guide for myself that covers Orthodox ML & Chinese socialism and annotated everything for which I could find an audiobook; I’d still like to learn more about socialism outside of the West and China.
This is what I’ve listened to so far:
Writers from the Global South
- Walter Rodney: How Europe Underdeveloped Africa
- Ho Chi Minh - Down with Colonialism!
- Eduardo Galeano - Open Veins of Latin America
Western Writers about the Global South
The recommendations don’t have to centre around socialism, and I’d be more than willing to pay for the content. I just don’t know what to listen to next. Kind of out of my depth. I did find Che’s on Guerilla Warfare, but I haven’t started listening to it yet.
Ahh nice. I did find someone (was it you?) linking to a similar torrent collection, but somehow that page gave a 404.
I think it was for an 1337x user page. Anyhow, yes, I was aware of this page.
I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for, but Fanon’s The Wretched of the Earth (example audiobook) was interesting. (If you prefer audiobooks with commentary, the fourth season of the Marx Madness podcast covers this book.)
Actually stumbled up on that one. Got really weirded out by it being read in that accent.
I could give it another try. What did you think of it?
I haven’t listened to that particular reading of the book (I just listened to a bit, and I’m personally fine with the accent), but it seems like there’s at least one more recording on YouTube.
About the book itself? I found it interesting, although I had heard of many of its ideas before (from other sources).
It seems to be on OverDrive for some libraries, so you could also check there.
OverDrive?
Not American (anymore), thanks though.
(Good for you, genuinely.) It’s also in various European countries, at least.
I’ll check it out. Always happy to support libraries.

Been reading up on information around the book and I just noticed that the dates related to Cuba in my mind were all wrong. I knew the Cuban Missile Crisis was in 1962, but I didn’t know that the Bay of Pigs invasion was a year before that, and the conclusion of the Cuban Revolution a mere two years before that.
I always guesstimated the Cuban Revolution having happened almost a decade before it did.
Going to add it to the list I’ll create specifically for audible. Want to have another 3-4 titles on audible before I sign up.
