Since months I have a difficult time to install the app easily. Its name keeps changing in the F-Droid repository (I think I’ve installed the French kbd app just to get the main kdb app downloaded), and it looks like easiest is to download the apk from the F-Droid website. Today this surprise with another name change which starts to look like an Eastern egg (Searched on F-Droid site and Fossdroid.com sites and could not find an Israel 64 BDay theme). On another phone, after updating the repo info, the name changed from Norwegian to French, but then the description claims it is the NL kbd app.
Here an example for Catalan kbd app https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.anysoftkeyboard.languagepack.catalan/ suggesting to download the main kbd app manually. If my memory serves me well a few years ago installation was clear and straightforward. So what is going on ?
I’ve noticed this and at some point started to just download from Github Releases. They don’t update the app often enough that I’ll be missing out on the convenience of F-Droid updates. Funnily enough, whenever I’d do that, the main app would appear as the Catalan language pack on F-Droid.
I have noticed this exact behaviour too. I have actually unintentionally uninstalled the main app thinking it was just a language pack… Not that I have any idea why it is happening, but it is not user-friendly at all.
So I am not the only one with the issue.
Yes, years ago was perfectly. Idk if it is because of App metadata that is confused in the building system by devs or the parser (this could happen if different projects are hosted in a same repo like the main keyboard plus the language packs).
I have the same issue. I tried to go back to a previous version to get rid of the annoying Coronavirus warning. I realized that the app I had installed was then the “Portuguese AnySoftKeyboard”, after a few days it was the French and now is German. Regardless, the Coronavirus still there.
Trying FlorisBoard, but it’s not the same.
Those are language packs or UI addons. Just install AnySoftKeyboard with nothing else in its name.

That is how I always did that in the past, installing the main app, but things have changed. There is no such download directly from F-Droid anymore.
Sorry for my ignorance. You are right, the heck is this? This is new to me, ASK disappeared from f-Droid.
It didn’t actually disappear. It just shows up with the name of one of its language packs, for whatever reason.
This link points to the actual ASK app, no matter what it says in the title:
https://f-droid.org/packages/com.menny.android.anysoftkeyboardFrench pack? This is funny.
