I literally fall asleep to the deprogram so that I don’t get depressed. I feel like I’m going nuts.

I’ve been hearing this from Asians. I have Mexico as a definite option in my mind. Not against sending some naz*s to hell… but realistically I will prob not want to be here either when things get worse.

    • Man, get out of that place if you can. Once Amerika goes too far (e.g. with Taiwan), escaping will probably be far more difficult. Does your father know about the massive spike in anti-Asian hate crimes but still wants to stay?

I feel like its only a matter of time before me and everyone I love is violently murdered by a vigilante for not having a US flag bumper sticker or something.

But actually if anything keeps me up at night its not necessarily that violence seems to be on the horizon, but that so many people are not willing to discuss it.

I am in a class that is solutions oriented and looks at things people are doing around the world to relieve precarity and address climate change. Many of these things are very relevant for revolutionaries. But there is no discussion that if all of us students went on to increase the prevalence of these solutions that we can only expect violence to come as either a reaction to success or a result of our actions (acadimia breeds colonizers too). In fact non violence is fetishized and treated like a holy dogma instead of a tactic. One of my classmates recently made a comment implying that non violence must be ubiquitous. Somehow its not easy to recognize the daily violence that is litterally everywhere all the time???

If a traditional fascism takes hold in the US the “good liberals” are going to get blindsided in ways they cant imagine. The other possibility (and this is my prediction because Trump supporters are not as scarey as the nazis in terms of establishing a fascist dictatorship goes) is that libs will just support a new vigor for colonialism and send the cops to crush any resistance.

I used to fall asleep every night to the rooster teeth podcast (I was a lib)

I’ve got a friend that consumes rooster teeth content but I’ve never actually looked into what it is. Are they particularly lib?

Between the world going crazy and anxiety in our personal lives… this is really relatable.

Keep your head up, comrade. Take a break if you need. We will win. Keep in the back of your mind that a whole new world is being built as we speak. It will be okay. Take care of yourself, friend. We love you.

    • Cannot fall asleep due to noise, so I can’t have white noise in the background.
    • Cannot fall asleep due to my own thoughts keeping me awake, and I just spiral into a vicious cycle of dread.
    • Cannot close my eyes, the thoughts get louder otherwise (sometimes the brain gets spicy, and shows me horrific imagery)

I’m mostly not sleeping because it’s humid as fuck with 30 degrees Celsius weather, so my bedsheets and I just morph into a blob of sticky shit. I also can’t open a window because I haven’t finished the insect screen yet, and I don’t want to be a mosquito buffet.

That being said, it’s important to focus on stuff outside the misery in the world. It’s important to stay learning about the state of the world, but having a walk outside, reading a non-theory book, playing a video game, going to a bar, go on a trip etc. is important too. You need to prevent going mad, because that would not benefit your cause in the long run.

I’ve had issues with insomnia since my pre-teen years, definitely familiar with how much of a struggle it can be. Things are bad and it’s really easy to get into a doomspiral of thoughts that make it hard to just turn off your brain and rest. For me, socializing during the day helps a lot, it pulls me out of my own thoughts, and leaves my brain with good vibes afterwards.

Don’t be afraid to give yourself a break and tend to your mental balance. Take an hour or two before you go to bed and do something to relax and clear your mind: take a walk, a hot bath, listen to some music, etc. Taking care of yourself is important and we all need our maintenance breaks.

I’m not sure I can attribute my lack of sleep to my understanding of the world, since I have insomnia since I was a teenager. Actually, by studying Marxism (i.e. finding out how bad everything really is), I became much more optimistic about humanity, because not only I’ve seen in it a coherent and satisfying explanation for the social issues which affects us, but also a guide towards revolutionary action as well

I have not have had issues sleeping in terms of falling asleep but due to similar circumstance as you describe I have been having strings of nightmares and my mental health has fucking tanked recently. It makes doing much of anything tbh hard.

I can’t relate because I struggle with low empathy and take medication to sleep. But to be fair, I still have my hyper-vigilant nights every once in a while.

The best way to stop thinking about something is picturing a new thing. Replace the Deprogram podcast at night, leave it for the morning. I find old computers and chemistry good topics to grab my attention when I’m hyper-vigilant.

Sleep is fundamental for your health. You’re allowed to stop thinking about the state of the world when it’s time to rest.

I don’t have problems falling asleep but I get absolutely maximum 6 hours of sleep if I don’t take medication to help me sleep better, but yeah I feel you comrade, I’ve been feeling quite anxious and alienated as of late and it is certainly not helping
